i was planning on running it, yeah. of course if you have an idea for a campaign you should certainly start one! I'd love to play and there's no reason we can't have multiple games going at once, with different storylines and everything. i've run a few of these before. I would probably use DCC RPG, it's a little esoteric but it's a great system and a player can learn everything they need to know to play in a few minutes. when i have a clearer idea of what i want to do, i'll let you know Ah, yes, I'm familiar with Dungeon Crawl Classics -- never played it but I'm familiar with it, and I love the "funnel" idea it uses -- I've personally used a Dungeon World supplement, "Funnel World," to emulate that, and it's so much fucking fun! So yes, that sounds wonderful.

Yep! like most GMs, I have more books than experience playing and I have around 10 DCC modules and the book. I would certainly be interested in playing DCC ad maybe also running a D&D 0, 1 or B/X game. Since its been so long I forget some of the basic functions.
Is initiative rolled for everyone and then people just wait for the person to go? I think the OSR group initiative would work better as you can say okay party can go and then monsters attack.

I think in a play by post setting, group initiative would work a lot better, but it's of course up to the person running the game. Like you said, just easier to deal with in the particular format.

What! You should write more about it. Finding articles on OSR is daunting. Here are mine which I havent posted about a game in a little bit. hollywoodmetal.com/category/tabletop-rpg/I think OSR in general would be interesting in PBP since a lot of the stuff that would be unfun in person like Mapping, record keeping, exploration would be easy to do with the resources of the internet and applications. Any sort of basic dice roller could loop in all those funky DCC dice and shit, with text based narratives, your players wont be side chatting while you explain long winded speeches by the king.

That's always been my pet peeve -- as much as I love sitting down at a table and playing RPGs (anyone who doesn't is weird! Kidding mostly) it's hard to really get people to fully drop out of real life for a while unless you have a very specific group of people. Plus, I think this will be nice because it will give players more time to be deliberate with actions -- instead of doing the very first thing that comes to mind that might be tactically logical, really think of what your character would actually do. On the same token, it's a lot easier for the GM to improvise -- you're still on the spot, of course, but you don't quite have a table full of eyes burning into you.

Yep! my day job requires me to keep the attention of a group of individuals so I can usually do that but I also understand that people have other things going on so blowing off steam with jokes and side talk is usually okay with me but there are sometimes that I want the players to know who this king is and why they are going to the crypt of his court bard to retrieve her dulcimer. Also cold text gives the opportunity for atmosphere and scene setting and descriptions, something that I always want to do more and is sometimes hard if there is a picture of a shiba caught in a bush going around the table. To be fair, it is pretty funny.

Alright folks. Just let me know what I need to read/learn so that when this thing goes in full-swing I won't be too much of a burden.

Great blog! you know what, i think i've actually seen your blog before in connection to others. i'll be sure to follow it now. if you want an OSR blog roundup post, i could do this. I've been following the scene for about 10 years. however, this might merit a separate thread of it's own methinks....

Alright folks. Just let me know what I need to read/learn so that when this thing goes in full-swing I won't be too much of a burden. no worries, friend. i'll work with you to make sure you have the resources you need. it sounds like verminaard and kaptaincarbon are also experienced roleplayers, i'm sure they'll be willing to help a fellow adventurer along.

Yep yep! No problems with that at all. It's not as intimidating as it seems to play a RPG, the huge books and everything make it seem like that but about 75% of those books are only used if you're running the game, so you have nothing to worry about.

Alright folks. Just let me know what I need to read/learn so that when this thing goes in full-swing I won't be too much of a burden. ll we need is a plugin for a dice roller. I am going to see if any of them are already pre installed . This is the one I am looking at. www.proboards.com/library/plugins/item/338[roll=1d20] [roll=3d6]

A built in plugin would be very, very useful indeed.
