Does anyone else find themselves in the situation where their DS AOTY is your overall AOTY? My favorite overall releases this year have been in this genre. Definitely. I've had a really lonely year overall and I find that it's the best genre to make me feel at peace with my loneliness without being too depressing, as well as spark creativity and make me more productive. And like you said earlier in the thread, The Canterbury Tales is in a class all its own. It's definitely my AOTY. It's been a while since I experienced something so masterful and immersive. Just kinda wish he sold physical copies. Ah, but he did!

2016 really brought the tour de force from new artists as well as many long-awaited physical releases from veteran acts. In no particular order, here are a few releases that stood out to me by making 2016 a year worth owning a computer:
Old Tower – Spectral Horizons A shorty but a goody. What an incredible mood 21 minutes can evoke. Missed out on snagging a copy of the cassette, but I visited the BC page more times than I care to count just to listen to this gem. Verminaard – Wardens of a Light-Starved Realm Someone got it right. This guy is incredible and I'm left wondering where he's been for the last decade. His new album is stellar as well, but the artwork, the ambiance, the vibes of this album absolutely sent me back to 1995 in the best way. Lunar Womb – The Sleeping Green Not sure this counts as a 2016 release, but at least in physical format. I first heard this composition years ago and once a year or so I would stumble across it again. Always wanted to own a copy. Out of Season answered my plea; thank you guys so much for delivering on the need for new AND old work. Balrog – The Ringwraiths Some seriously bitchin efforts made towards re-vamping a few choice LOTR soundtrack tunes. Really interesting ideas. Thangorodrim – Taur Nu Fuin All I can say is I'm blown away every time I listen to this album. Perfect length, perfect mood, perfect concept. Prescott, Arizona just shivered in its sleep without knowing why. I can't wait for more releases. Wonders of Nature – Winter Forest I guess it's not technically DS, but this album really surprised me with some hidden gems, particularly "Winter Twilight". Really fit the last few months of 2016 well. Depressive Silence - Mourning Again, I'm 20+ years late on supporting this one, but just got my vinyl copy in the mail and I feel like I'm listening to it for the first time. Absolute perfection. Skarpseian - Fragmenter Av Trolldom This act is really making the wait between albums worthwhile. What exceptional atmospheres Skarpseian creates. We'll be due for another release sometime in the next decade and I for one am on pins and needles waiting.
This is my first post, so sorry if I didn't follow proper formatting/protocol. Very impressed with this proboard, thank you all so much for taking the time to make it such an interactive platform.

Thanks a ton for your support! I'm not sure where I've been for the past decade either but I'm glad I finally stumbled my way here! For what it's worth, I'm a very big fan of your music as well.
