I thought about joining the antifa group just because I was curious about the discussions going on there, but now I guess it's good that I didn't with everyone being banned just by association. I caught bits and pieces on Facebook, but always seeming to be vague responses to a deleted thread. I honestly don't care about any of this other than just being disappointed to have missed out on the entertainment. Every new bit of drama seems less and less serious to me, so I'm feeling less and less guilty at just enjoying the spectacle of silly people getting riled up over nothing.

I kind of wish there weren't any moderators for the facebook group and it was just anything goes.

This is why I quit social media. It's stupid, petty and a major waste of time. I'm not sure whether I want the Facebook ship to just sink like it's started sinking already or if I want those idiots just staying over there so I don't have to deal with them. I guess they're not going away anyways, just gonna find another place to waste their lives in useless arguments over and over again.
Screw Facebook, screw politics, screw hypocrites, screw pretenders and screw the rest of it.

I kind of wish there weren't any moderators for the facebook group and it was just anything goes. Shane from Sombre Acane made some group with no rules where everyone in the group is also an admin, so everyone can ban eachother and usurp each other and delete anything. I'm not in the group because I want strictly limit the time I spend on FB, but it's an interesting idea.

I don't post much on Facebook so will probably only be lurking, but that does sound like a cool concept. A little while ago I noticed a group called "Hyperborean Dungeon Synth" which seemed interesting, thought about joining just to be a fly on the wall. Based on the description it sounds like they are about free speech in regard to controversial political stuff, but always with a strict focus on the connection to dungeon synth. Sounds nice on paper, that if the "no fash" group was ironically fascistic in their censorship of anything non-left (I'm assuming), these guys are just about freedom, or so they say. But from the description I got the vibe that in reality that group is just right-wing without saying so directly, so as with the "no fash" group I decided it wasn't worth joining to lurk if that meant getting dragged into the drama just by association.

So I'm on a Facebook fast at the moment (as well as reduced screen-time more generally), and it's already quite nice. You don't really notice how many times you mindlessly just open it up on your phone without a real reason for doing so. Don't really feel like I've missed out on anything since all the new DS stuff is in the BC tag and I'm signed up for the mailing lists of most labels or artists I want to get news from. Feel like I've saved some money even since I don't see new things to buy right away, and if I do miss something like a tape release, chances are I really didn't need it anyway. Have been reading a bit more, too. Only thing I do miss is the group chat with some friends, but we have other avenues for communication. I'd recommend taking a month off if you ever feel bogged down by social media. The only trick is not supplementing with social media websites. Also, pertaining to the topic of this thread: can't see the FB drama if you're not on FB

Also, pertaining to the topic of this thread: can't see the FB drama if you're not on FB I've been off facebook for a short time now, and am planning on staying off, maybe for good. It's really nice, like you said. Specifically, in regards to DS, I've been enjoying BC and this forum being the only places that I interact with the scene. It's infinitely more chill. Like andrewwerdna said earlier, I've also been entertained by the drama, but lately it's become more exhausting/cringey than entertaining for me. I'll never say that facebook isn't useful, but I just don't think it's for me anymore, at least not at this point.

Well I've finally managed to get un-banned from Facebook (with no indication of how I was banned from creating an account despite never having had one before) - was going to look at joining some groups and adding people, but I really get the feeling from this thread that I'm probably best off not joining any of the main groups and wouldn't be missing much?

Join mate, and just lurk there, join both Dungeon Synth group and Dungeon Synth cult.. Chunks of dramas, lots of overrated praise, some strange or disturbing ppl(imho) but if you just lurk there it is probably the most "steady" flow of info/talk/drama/etc in the DS things...

I've meant to reactivate my account this week, but haven't gotten around to it. I miss talking to some people but it's so easy to waste time. Wish IRC was still popular, haha. It's not like the groups are bad or anything, but I stopped getting much from them over time. The amount of people in them now spawns a lot of 'what ds is good' or 'how do I make ds' threads, and it seemed some releases get hype status too easily in there, but like crystallogic13 said, it's where most online DS stuff is going on. Maybe just check them every so often. Definitely wouldn't turn on the notifications, though.

Thanks crystallogic13 and thekeeper - I have a very low tolerance for social media stuff in general (the forum here is more my speed), so I'll consider myself duly warned, but keep an eye on it for anything interesting.

Sorry for going off topic, but gotta say your avatar fits so perfectly to your last two posts
