dungeonsynth.blogspot.com/I'm not planning to start regularly posting again any time soon, but I recently did an interview/conversation thing with Erang that I wanted to mention here. I'm not sure what thread to post this in so I figured I might as well start a general thread for my blog, for potential future announcements and whatnot as well. Anyways, here is the conversation with Erang: dungeonsynth.blogspot.com/2022/02/a-conversation-with-erang.htmlI feel like that was a very deep and interesting discussion, more than most regular interviews, but I apologize if I rambled too much. I'm not particularly interested in doing proper interviews, but an in-depth back-and-forth conversation with an old friend about a decade of working with this kind of music sounded like fun to me, and it was! I hope you guys find it to be an enjoyable read as well.

Great chat, hilarious that Erang doesn’t even have access to an ‘undo’ command. I’d love to hear some of his compositions in the Mario Paint music maker.

Thanx both Andrewwerdna and Erang for the discussion you've provided us (and everything really for DS) I saw the link yesterday at FB pages (Erang's and DS's ones) and already started consuming it, great themes and glad you posted it here since I already love to comment a lot in it, lots of great mentions... (off topic example about nostalgia, the pen mail pals/friends you mentioned which I see was a thing worldwide in the 80s 90s indeed, but also so many other things I want to thumbs up for talking about!)! I even slowly read it to digest and get the nostalgia and memory treatment myself.. Endless respect for both for many many things, regards!!

This is such an interesting interview and I love the bit about stumbling across obscure links to music. To me, as someone who was born in 1992 and started to really get into music when social media and mass filesharing were already a thing, the internet seems so readily available and music files seem so plentiful and endlessly reproducible. The idea of finding one as this unique object almost like an artifact in a kind of virtual dungeon has really changed the way I think about both - even if that era has somewhat come to an end

Erang seems like a genuinely good human.
Thank you for sharing this interview.

After seeing that Dungeon Synth, A Long Introduction video essay which showed up on youtube recently, I was finally motivated to do a retrospective about my old list which was the main value of my blog back in the day. Again I'm going to apologize if it comes across a bit self-indulgent, nostalgic looking back seems to be all that I'm drawn to write lately. But at least it's the last thing I really feel compelled to talk about when it comes to that old history of my blog. dungeonsynth.blogspot.com/2022/04/history-of-list.html

Hey andrewwerdna , I'm sure all of us enjoy these looking back posts so instead of apologizing I think we should be thankful of you creating content for our reading pleasure on DS stuff.. Can't wait to read the new blog post but wanted to reply first Regarding the aforementioned youtube vid on Dungeon Synth, I think it hasn't been posted in the forum yet, so the link is www.youtube.com/watch?v=DG6Svb0f_sM and I really do recommend everyone to watch it!! I was about to create a new thread to discuss it since I just watched the whole of it yesterday and it's really good with lot of research from the author yet still I'm sure he made some small mistakes/forgot stuff/etc but in general it is really a must watch since as we all know there are not a LOT of "about DS" themed videos on the net and again, it's totally solid.. Funny that one of the minor mistakes in it was about your list andrew, when he reaches Summoning he mentions them as "Dark Ambient" (!!!!!!!!!!!!) which the only explanation I can give is that the author just made an error on his reading script and didn't notice, dunno really.. I thoroughly enjoyed it though and no matter some different opinions on specific things we might all have, the outreach of this video I hope will bring more people to discovering the treasures of the genre..

Huh, I didn't notice that. But yeah, in general I agree it was a really excellent and comprehensive video, definitely the best I can think of.

As far as I remember, more than twenty years ago, I started my first keyboard project inspired by the Summoning keyboards, trying to follow its epic sound. Mortiis would come later as an inspiration. I'll be always thankful to you, Andrew, for having included my first project in your updated list, and for having coined the term "dungeon synth". That gave us an identity that, in my case, drove me to start three new synth projects at that time. I can say that half of my music exists thanks to your blog.
Regarding your blog post, it really was an extremely interesting reading. I hope you can keep posting these kind of texts, at least from time to time.

I do wish artists like yourself with Mitternacht, who were keeping the flame alive in the dark ages of the 2000s, got more recognition. Your three albums from that period are really great and historically important in my opinion. ( The Desolation of Blendenstein, The Raise of the Secret Cities, and 8 Visions of the Time Pilgrim for those who don't know).
