I've been using a microcassette recorder recently and kinda wanted to share the idea because I haven't seen anyone else talking about it. it's a very easy way to get dark warbly analog tape sounds, especially with the half-speed option on most recorders (because they are meant to record voice notes)
also just felt like making a video about it:
Does anyone else use these?

Hahahah damn that sounds excellent, love your room reverb too lol. I got rid of a bunch of these at my old job and Iβve been kicking myself for not holding onto one, especially now knowing what it couldβve sounded like. How reliable is the tape speed? Could you feasibly record multiple tracks if you βbouncedβ the tape to digital a few times? Ir would it not sync properly?

Incredible dude. Would you believe I just went rooting in my "random electronic cords" box two days ago to see which stereo cables I might have, and I found my Sony microcassette recorder and like ten old tapes in there? Didn't give much thought to using it this way but I did notice it has convenient inputs and outputs.
Going to experiment with this, thanks for the video. Cool music too.

I bought microcassette recorder some time ago but don't have any cassettes for it, the ones I've found online have been really expensive. Hainbach has video or two about using microcassette recorders, there was some neat ideas on them!

Sounds great!
I have a couple of dictophones, one of them is Minicassette rather than microcassette and I bought a load of tapes for it on ebay to rerecord but they all contained a 70s(?) journalist interviewing people at NASA ! so I feel like I should archive them before/rather-than recording over, in case it's anything important to space history nerds ha
