I hear a lot of different sounds that have different tones and aesthetics. Some seem to approach the genre with a sense of mysticism, others heroism, and others still with dread. What do you usually try to convey in your music? And what are some of your favorite ideas/moods/tones that you like to hear expressed by others? I for one, really like music that sounds like an adventure taken up by a gutsy hero. Like Conan the Cimmerian charging across the open plain, or Link the Hyrulean dashing through the forests to conquer some secret labyrinth. It's the sounds that uplift and inspire that I'm keenest on of all, which is why I like Upon The Dismal Shores of Acheron by FVRFVR so much. Despite it's name, it really gets that tone I enjoy so much. Songs outside this genre that I think would really translate well into it, that convey the same thing would probably be Achilles Last Stand by Led Zeppelin, and Sons Of Thunder and Brothers In The Wind by High On Fire. These sorts of songs always stick out to me the most, even amongst my favorites.

Melancholy, adventurousness, forest solitude (Waldeinsamkeit), escapism, dangerous dungeons, altercations.

Waldeinsamkeit is one of those German words that just reminds me of how lacking the English language is. Also reminds me of this. It's kinda weird looking it up, there's a lot of very western approaches to this sort of stuff (like how yoga is used for physical and mental wellness, as opposed to it's origins for meditation and worship). But I digress. You spend a lot of time in the woods?

When it comes to the things I look for in music it varies, I would say. I like a lot of dark, melancholic music. As a listener, I also love to be transported to unique, different places. But really, there are so many ways one can enjoy music, it's really hard to pin it down. When it comes to creating music, this is something that brings me calm, especially playing instrument, it's very calming to me. This is probably the main thing that can be heard in the music I create, I think.

Usually I get inspiration from folklore. And trying to portray the atmosphere of those years.

What are you trying to express in your compositions? >>>>>
Personal and individual exploration of fantasy environments. Sensation of wonder, discovery of a distant and static world, which resides in another plane or place of existence. Exploration, venture, feats and achievements more bigger than men.
Sometimes power and war, vileness, strong dualism, oppression and abuse. The secret of steel, the armies crossing gorges, the displacement of trebuchets, the flower of battle, and so on.
Sometimes arcane secrets. Whispers, crystal balls, covenants, alchemical processes, perennial philosophy, belladonna, homunculus, imps and fiends.
Other times, solemnity and stillness. Blurred landscapes. The sound of Nature at night. The coldness of marble. The vastness of the highlands.
No matter the underlying theme, I always aspire to a static or cyclical image, as in the art and philosophy of Antiquity / Middle Ages. Like a weird photograph where everything seems to flow in a circle and contain a strong energy, but at the same time remains still forever.

So for you, it's more of a complete view of dark age fantasy, rather than a single focus on one element of it?

In general, I enjoy all DS projects, no matter how focused, but I tend to identify less, or feel my imagination stifled, when the theme of the album follows a very specific tale where each track is a chapter. I also tend to get more bored if the whole album is dedicated to a very specific topic.

I know what you mean, though I tend to be more inspired by things that are focused like the point of a spear, rather than the flat of an oar. I'll give your work a listen sometime soon, when I finally get around to fully catching up on everything here. Right now, it's real painter hours, all artwork, all the time.

I created a kind of gloomy science fantasy world with a few different fuzzy planes of reality and chaos gods. I'm just making music that would be a good soundtrack to an adventure set in this world.
tbh im basically just trying to produce slow, sad metal-ish songs with humorous samples and a dark atmosphere
