Greetings everyone! Back in the years '97-'03 I had a project called Talvi ('winter' in Eng.). I was heavily inspired by Mortiis and Wongraven and pretty much everything Nordic back then. I released a CD-R demo Ikirouta ('permafrost') during the first half of '01. It was limited to 50 hand-numbered copies and distributed mainly between friends and close circles. During '01-'03 I worked with the 2nd demo Lumiusva ('snow mist'), but unfortunately I never got it finished/released. All materials from that time dwelled in backups for ages to come, but somewhere during '21 I found the old external harddrive and managed to salvage the old files that I had thought were lost and gone forever. The Lumiusva material needed some remastering, but otherwise those songs remain unchanged. I then uploaded both old demo releases to Bandcamp for everyone interested in checking out my humble music from 20+ years back. Furthermore, this summer I got this wild idea to revive my old project and start creating music for it again. Thus, back in September, a brand new EP Kuurankajo ('rime shimmer') got finished and released, presenting 5 completely new songs in wintry medieval fantasy synthscapes created with the original 4MB MIDI soundfont from the 90's that came with my old Sound Blaster card and which was also used in the old demos. talvisynth.bandcamp.com/Also, Talvi - Complete Works '01-'22 (incl. both old demos and the new EP) is now available on the following services: Spotify:
Amazon Music: music.amazon.com/albums/B0BG3KCC42YouTube Music: music.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_m433tAOvtFcJ-ahIJLBPDi-AjwyAEofKoCheers all!

Listening to your 2001 release, very nice atmospheric one, enjoying it as I write halfway through!! It's a good thing you uncovered the releases since the era 2000-2010 is considered one of the more quiet in Dungeon Synth releases (in retrospect) but it's always nice to see diamonds unveiled and that past decade having a stronger lineup of releases!! All bookmarked for more exploration soon enough, glad to have you on forum and listening to your releases, regards!!

A new song from the upcoming Menneenkierä EP '23 is now out as a single! "Menneenkierä" (roughly transl. 'snowdrift of the halcyon days' in Eng.) is a wrap-up of separate bits and pieces, ideas and fragments, concepts and memos from years back, and thus a hybrid of old and new: the base melodies are from '99-'02 (from time somewhere between Ikirouta and Lumiusva demos), which have then received a lot of flesh around the bones with completely new harmonies and arrangements. The new EP will include the last remaining pieces of previously unused melodies from the past finally forged into 5 complete songs of wintry and folky MIDI synthscapes. talvisynth.bandcamp.com/album/menneenkier-single-99-02-23

Talvi - Menneenkierä (EP '99-'02/'23) is now out! talvisynth.bandcamp.com/album/menneenkier-ep-99-02-23PS. Some of the material on this release was supposed to be on my participation for the latest winter solstice rush challenge, but then I ended up creating this EP instead. EDIT_1: As a little sidenote, all photos for the album covers I've got at Bandcamp are taken by me in the woods near my childhood home somewhere back in '99-'01. Those woods don't exist anymore; the areas are now packed full with apartments and buildings. EDIT_2: Oh, and my logo is from '02, after numerous phases and iterations back in those days. EDIT_3: An extreme case of old and new on this release is the part 4. Just 2-3 months ago I discovered some old cassettes on which I had all kinds of melodies recorded as memos/notes for possible future use. In general, all songs on this EP derive from those tapes + some old backups that I managed to salvage earlier, but one particular piece I'm quite proud of, although I say it myself. The base for Menneenkierä pt. IV is this short tune from the year '99 from which I then expanded the idea further into an almost 4 minute song. -> drive.google.com/file/d/1fHmKQd9CigQEtBx2chRALJPe-HO2bgKT/view?usp=sharing

Talvi - Marrasjää (single '00/'23) is now out! Originally intended for Menneenkierä EP but finally separated into a single release under the title Marrasjää ('moribund ice' in Eng.). This one's also a hybrid of old and new: variations of folky themes from '00 reinforced with new harmony layers and sections being rearranged into a coherent whole. The end result lives up well to the distinctive "Talvi sound" and displays another completion of my unfinished works of the past. talvisynth.bandcamp.com/album/marrasj-single-00-23

Here's some rare cvlt that I found in my old c-cassettes: the first rehearsals/recorded memos for Talvi from the year '97 when this whole project started! The first 2 sections are my first compositions ever and which then became the parts I and II for the Ikirouta demo '01, and the third section was something that never got worked further and thus didn't make it to any official releases. The sound quality is somewhat raw, as I just placed my Casio next to the tape recorder and blasted away. drive.google.com/file/d/19Imq8FWu9YjBRVi-Eq-tdYCKsjK7MZOB/view?usp=sharing

Talvi - Hyisenkaiku (single '23) is now out! After having exhausted my reserves of old unfinished material, here's a completely new song in a form of a single release. Hyisenkaiku (roughly transl. 'glacial echo' in Eng.) walks the established Talvi paths, delivering vibes and imagery of wintry northern landscapes in authentic 90's MIDI sounds. talvisynth.bandcamp.com/album/hyisenkaiku-single-23

What a story, to think 20 years later you'd come back to this project!? I really enjoy the atmosphere you created, and have been checking out those newer tracks Hyisenkaiku is a beautiful song; I was playing it out loud and my husband instantly liked it! Keep up the awesome work ♡( ◡‿◡ )

Many thanks for the warm feedback! \o/ The funny thing is, I actually never had any particular intention to return to this project, but when I discovered my old backups and realized how much there is unfinished material, I simply couldn't have lived with myself if I had not started working on all that after all these years. The old 2nd demo finally saw the daylight through remastering, I managed to wrap up unfinished stuff into Menneenkierä and Marrasjää, and even got some 100% new material with Kuurankajo and now Hyisenkaiku. And at the moment I'm already having plans for future releases. Luckily I'm a preservationist by nature, thus I've kept everything I've created throughout my life, a "just-in-case mind" so to speak. Personally I'm very happy to be back in creating music again after many years of fog and emptiness, and I'm extremely delighted and grateful for my material having reached people who are into this kind of audial expression as well. Eternal hails & cheers!

Just a couple of forgotten curiosities from the past: First intended as an outro for the Lumiusva demo but which then got scrapped in the end, an original mix from '02: The only (and thus very much unofficial) metal song I ever made for this project, a mash-up of 90's "Norse" kinda riffs & melodies, this one's from '02 as well: That god-awful drum programming...
