Didn't notice a thread just dedicated to board games yet? If there is, I guess I'll need my eyes checked and I'll delete this Anyways, love the game Wiz War. Been playing the 8th edition for years now, always have good memories playing this with my friends. The basic premises is to either steal the treasure first or murder the other wizards: We painted the figures really shitty too, gave one of the wizards a magic 8 ball to hold and some corpse paint (will add a pic later when I can) I'm actually not the best at this game, and most of my fond memories are centered around the dumb ways my friends have killed me. Anyways, what are your favorite board games to play? ╮ (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.) ╭

I played Everdell a couple weeks ago with some friends, it was pretty fun! The art on all the cards was very cute too; overall it's a very wholesome game~ We accompanied playing with tea and some ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* whimsical fairy music *:・゚✧*:・゚✧ Highly recommended this to enrich the experience

I have unfortunately abandoned both board games and tabletop rpgs in recent years, but I'm always interested and on the lookout for current news and what's going on in the scene... In recent years with kickstarter, maybe also with the influx of (damn) collectors(as with other "markets"), I think board games still have huge dynamic and dedicated crowd for life.. Only thing i dislike is the upward tend of prices, matching more the damn "collectibles" markets sometimes than affordable to the masses family-wallet friendly prices I remember I grew up with.. There are exceptions though, I picked up for a gift couple of weeks back a more "pocket" Monopoly version by Hasbro at 8,5 Euros which is a very fair price, on the other hand I remember seeing some Hero Quest re-release and think that is TOO f costly for a 30+ years old game most of us (me included) already have it in adequate condition.. Thinking about it a little more, any board games I've purchased over the last decade always were bought as gifts for family and friends, mostly classic titles.. Last one I bought for me, was a two pack of "Colossal Adventure/Cave"(based on Crowther and Woods original FORTRAN adventure which named the whole beloved genre) more than 10++ years ago, when it was kickstarted, goa a pack of 2 + expansions, ended up giving one of the copy to a giveaway of a greek adventure games community site (Adventure Advocate) while my copy is still shinkwraped deep within a closet so never even played it or just check it out By the way, like computer/video games, I love the history and lore of physical gaming too (ludology/game studies whatever it is called), as well as books about them but that\s another rabbit hole

crystallogic13 I have to agree with the pricing of board games, it seems most of them come at the price of $60 minimum which is a little steep. At the same time though, that's the same price as your average video game these days without paying for any additional charges/dlc. I did recently purchase Escape the Dark Castle which was at a reasonable price of $40, which I'm looking forward to playing. Looks like it will promise some nice DS vibes and atmosphere~✧* Colossal Cave looks really cool btw, have it bookmarked now. Thanks! I think sometimes it's hard to grab a group to game with compared to video games though. Not everyone wants to meet up to play a physical game, especially with the convenience of playing online. My two friends(that are twins) who I usually play with (alongside my twin) share pretty much nothing in common with me besides playing board games, and I think that's part of the fun is that you can bond with people even without sharing many other interests. Anyways if I get to Colossal cave first, I'll let you know if it's worth digging in your closet for

Hehe the price discussion on board games and as you said video games brought me some thoughts I agree that compared and regarding (physical) video games, even "collector's" editions often nowadays priced at 90+ euros/dollars I think are less costly to the miniatures etc etc paraphernalia of the board games, so I totally understand that compared to video games, probably even with other forms of entertainment & art like books, movies, music and video games, their *physical* releases usually have (much) higher profit margins than board games..But then the costs of producing video games and movies are much higher than all the others, it's a big discussion but imho a maximum fair price for totally new AAA titles in video games should be max 60 euros. And I still remember that indeed video games where as costly if not even more back in the day, in Greece at 1990-91 I remember budgeto/older DOS games being sold original for 4500 drchmas, the equivalent of 13 euros today WITHOUT taking into account 30 years inflation, while new AAA titles back(e.g. Sierra and Lucasarts adventures) then were at the price range of 12000-15000 drachmas , which is around 30-45 euros but again diregarding 30 years worth of inflation (which actually means that back then they were sooooooo damn costly that piracy, as is still today, was thriving - at least board games don't have that problem ).. Also mate I hate all the "extras" and DLC you have to pay additionally to play the game if a game I really really want to play has them, I end up waiting for a complete or budget release of it to get the whole package.. There were expansions back in the day, but they were " expansions" not tiny skins and pets or especially PAY TO WIN stuff in some games which all of us dislike! I'd love if you get to play Colossal Cave to learn how it did go, since you're deep into board games there's some nice perspective you gonna have p.s. I looked at boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/227456/escape-dark-castle and indeed lots of DS vibes there, will make for a perfect blend with our favorite genre

Oh, for sure the pricing of video games makes complete sense when you account the amount of hours it takes to code, render art, storyboard, ect. I feel like collector's editions are sometimes worth it if you want the physical/tangible copy. Although it makes less sense to purchase that compared to a board game which only exists in the tangible form. I say this as if I don't collect CDs/Vinyl/Cassettes of music I can just enjoy in digital format. (Though that's an even bigger off topic ramble so I will spare you lol! )
Also crazy when you think of the price difference, but weird enough if you used an inflation calculator the pricing is the exact same as it was in the past!? I used one for USD, punched in $30.00 for 1/1/1993 and output for 1/1/23 was around $62.00. I'm not sure how big the difference for the Euro would be xD
I was jabbing at paying for added content in video games, but I honestly always pay money whenever my favorite MMORPG has updates/new game content. In my view, I want the support the company in order to ensure I can keep playing it (I play LoTRO which is owned by a fairly small gaming company) I do think it's ridiculous that some games make you pay for color skins (EX: Halo Infinite) Or even some with insane subscription prices. I got into ArcheAge (a Korean MMORPG) a few years ago until I realized how pricy the monthly subscription fee was!( A whopping $60.00 a month ;>_> )

For anyone that has small children, I recommend The A-maze-ing Labyrinth. Charming nostalgic 1980s artwork of stone walls and a bunch of treasures to collect: sword, book, scarab beetle, genie lamp, etc. etc. It's like the perfect childhood introduction to a dungeon-crawling aesthetic and mindset.
