Greetings everyone!
I am the person behind the project Idylls of the Last King, under which I have 12 releases so far. My musical tastes are very diverse and I think it shows in my discography, which touches on many different styles.
I enjoy the challenge of trying to weave together sounds and approaches that are not supposed to be part of the traditional Dungeon Synth sound, whilst putting alot of emphasis on making my music as dramatic and cinematic as possible. There is always a narrative and maybe even a story-arch which I follow since that seems to be the best way for me to get inspired and stay on track.
Since I will be hitting 40 any minute now, I want to say that Dungeon Synth and its entire aesthetic touches on a particular nostalgia for a sound and feeling that I cannot find anywhere else. Perhaps it brings back a sense of childhood wonder and curiosity, and the pairing of images of ancient forgotten lands with modern sound design, which seem to imply that anything and everthing is possible. In a sense, the raw spirit of true adventure!
Thank you for taking the time to read all this and I feel honored to have the opportunity to introduce myself and my music whilst in the company of so many incredible peers! Many of you were in fact the inspiration for me to take my first steps into the journey of crafting Dungeon Synth.

Greetings Idylls of the Last King, we are almost same age and lived through the good old days that fire the nostalgia as you said, congrats for your work and thumbs up for the love we all have for the genre!!! I have already listened to some of your releases and liked a lot of stuff, as you said, not traditional but very very captivating!! So very looking forward to listening to your latest split release with Anglachel (who is from Greece if i'm not mistaken, nice to see many people from here into Dungeon Sytnh)!!

Thank you so much! Yes, Anglachel is from Greece, I am from Cyprus, and so it made perfect sense that we aim for a theme that touches on our ancient myths and stories. As a Greek yourself, I hope you conclude that we did justice to the tale of the great Titan!
Indeed there seems to be a Dungeon Synth golden age right now in Greece, but I can't say the same about Cyprus. So far I have had only one other fellow Cypriot contact me to express their admiration for the genre, and no-one in my private circle that has even the slightest interest in it. Perhaps this will change, who knows, but I am happy with things the way they are regardless!
Thanks for taking the time to listen to my other releases and I am glad that you enjoyed them since I enjoyed making them and sharing them and it's always nice to know that people take an interest.

With that in mind, this is a journey deep inside the Mountain, a pilgrimage of sorts, in order to find, confront and understand the greatest of all the mythical monsters: the Self. So is this a dungeon synth album? I guess so. Is it a dark ambient album? I suppose so too, yes. But perhaps, more than anything, this is an album that had to be made in order for me to rediscover that place of shining wonder and terrifying splendor that was so easy to find when I was younger and my imagination could run wild so effortlessly. I hope you find listening to this album as immersive, transcendent and enjoyable as it was for me to make it. PS. The title comes from a motif in Renaissance art, where young shepherds in an idyllic pastoral scene would come across a tombstone bearing the inscription. The literal translation of "Et in Arcadia Ego" is "Even in Arcadia, there am I". It has been suggested that the 'I' of the phrase refers to Death, thus making the painting a memento mori, reminding the viewer that even in the blissful utopia of Arcadia, death still exists. With this as inspiration, I created this piece as a sort of "theme" that follows many of the conventions found in cinematic soundtracks. Good day everyone, Today I want to share with you some codes for a favourite release of mine, called "The Journey Home".
Back in 2021 (seems like a lifetime ago right now) I had a serious surgery and the whole experience brought out a whole range of emotions in me. When I finally made it out of hospital and back home to recover, one of the only things I could actually do comfortably was to put my headphones on and use Cubase. This specific piece was the first thing I worked on, and it all fell into place in just a few hours. It's a very meaningful track for me and I still find it to be very powerful and evocative, even though I have listened to it a million times!
