Hi! I actually just put out something that, at least in my ears, is definitely minimalist dungeon synth. It's called "The Tower of the Mad Wizard" and I made it for the HDK Adventurers Magazine: Volume 1, hence the 16bit aesthetic (which I feel suits HDK!). Maybe you'll like it? Give it a shot! idyllsofthelastking.bandcamp.com/album/the-tower-of-the-mad-wizard

I really like the classy minimal work of Maelifell and TrΓ€dvarelse. Both are current and release great work steeped in medievilness.

I like the idea of minimalism. What's more important in applying the designation, or qualifying for it? Fewer parts/voices/tracks? On some of these it sounds like one or two (I really like that Wayward Wanderer). When I started out I had in mind that I would work in that way most of the time: a couple of layers on my keyboard and that would be it. I've found myself adding more (including percussion) than I meant to sometimes, and I still try to hold back to a minimum of tracks per song if I can. Simplicity of composition? When I was a young man I listened to a lot of Phillip Glass and Steve Reich; I still listen to a few Steve Reich pieces regularly. There are several songs on my latest release that pay deliberate homage to those composers. But Arvo PΓ€rt seems to me closer to the spirit that DS aims for - listen to his Te Deum or Tabula Rasa, for example. I deliberately modeled my song "The Inner Tree" on his "Arbos," though I think my offering is simpler - certainly I'm not as well-trained a composer! How much overlap is there between "minimalist" and "lo-fi"? I make my music lo-fi first of all because I have to. Low budget? No budget! If I could afford more elaborate equipment and software, would I want to try for a more lush sound? I don't know. A big part of what drew me to DS in the first place was the lo-fi/minimalist part of it: in fact, that seemed like a defining characteristic of it when I first started listening. So I wonder if it's right to describe what I do as minimalist. Maybe I could be more consistent about it, since on one album I have more minimalist songs, like one or two synth voices and maybe some percussion, but on some I build up several layers, and then I also include acoustic tracks that I think can be described as neo-folk.

Politics aside, Goatmoon's "Silver Serpent" is extremely minimalistic and full of dark magic, i highly recommend if you don't care about Blackgoat's controversial opinions.
