Hello to everyone!! I am new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself. I'm Calignosia, a cinematic dungeon synth/dark ambient/neofolk project from Spain with several albums released in the last years and some cassette releases. You can listen to me mainly on Bandcamp and some albums are on Spotify and other similar websites. My style is quite eclectic and has varied over time and from album to album. A few days ago, Into the Night Land, my latest album was released on Bandcamp. The music on this album is inspired by the novel "The Night Land" by the British writer William Hope Hodgson. Two tracks of this album, The Maid of the Olden Days (Imperayritz de la Ciutat Joyosa) and In the Country of Silence (Mariam Matrem), are from the Llibre Vermell de Montserrat. Includes a booklet with the story and more artwork. I hope you will find my music and my project inspiring.
Best regards, Calignosia

Hello calignosia and welcome!!! Congrats for your music and projects, I haven't yet already listened to one of your works but browsing your Bandcamp page I started with your last release, getting some bleak vibes from couple of songs with the slow tempo, there is diversity though and other songs sound more traditional, nice stuff and wishing the best for the future... "The Road where the Silent Ones Walk" was my favorite if I had to choose one!! Again welcome and keep us updated and releasing music

Hi folks!! A new Calignosia album was released on December. It is a follow-up to "The Elephant King and the eaters of filthy things". "The Return Of The Elephant King" is 44 minutes long and twelve songs ranging from dungeon synth or dark ambient to neo-classical and neofolk.Don't hesitate to give it a listen!!

I was also thinking about recording "the set gotxs" for the album but I discarded it (too jouyful for the album, ha ha ). In "Into the Nighland" the two adaptations from the Llibre Vermell that I do are " Imperayritz de la ciutat joyosa" and " Mariam Matrem Virginem"
Very good track "Take up arms in defense", I really like it!
Greetings

Thanks! I'm really enjoying Into the Night Land! Wonderful use of those medieval melodies, and all in all the tunes and timbres you use are engaging and fresh.

I like hearing the oud.
And I particularly enjoy the Garamantian traditional songs. I want to know more about them. This kind of reminds me of the project I started first, Trebizond, which was inspired by the historical empire, the Byzantine remnant. I had a fantasy about Crimean Goths joining with refugees from England after the Norman Conquest and making Trebizond an enduring political power. But I don't know enough about the history or culture of the Black Sea to go very far with that. Some day I'd like to learn to play the Pontic lyra.

But I don't know enough about the history or culture of the Black Sea to go very far with that. Some day I'd like to learn to play the Pontic lyra. "Garamantian traditional songs" are six songs that are on the albums "The Elephant King and the eaters of filthy things" and its continuation "The Return Of The Elephant King".
The idea for the albums comes from Carthaginian history and Flaubert's novel "Salammbo". The homeric "Batrachomyomachia" also played an important role in the story.
The Garamantes were ancient peoples who lived in northern Africa. Flaubert adds to Garamantes a number of attributes to the Garamantes that they did not have in reality. They are probably the ancestors of the Tuareg ethnic groups.
The idea of the songs was to achieve a folkloric and nostalgic air of the desert people. In the songs I use oud and a Turkish saz as well as other non-real sounds.
Pontic lyra is a beautiful instrument. I am not familiar with bowed string instruments. I would like to learn to play them well.
Best regards!

I listened to Return of the Elephant King, and I enjoyed it but I feel like maybe I did not fully connect with it, even after three listens. Perhaps that is part of the intended effect, like being lost in a foreign land. I think there is a strong vision here, a genuine feeling of place, but one that exists independently without concern for outsiders casually wandering through. I intend to listen to the rest of the Calignosia discography soon though, and I hope that perhaps that will unlock some of the exotic mysteries for me...

I intend to listen to the rest of the Calignosia discography soon though, and I hope that perhaps that will unlock some of the exotic mysteries for me... First of all, thank you for your interest. Well, it is a dense album. It's the most complex album I've done so far. It's normal that it needs several listens. On the other hand, until track 8, it is intended to be a descent into the most terrifying depths of the mind, and therefore generate discomfort. The rest of the tracks are more joyful and intended to generate a spirit of hope. Also my music is eclectic and not exactly based on the usual dungeon synth form of composition. There are neoclassical influences, folk ...
Best regards!
