Frumious Mome Rath is my absolute favorite so far, but I've only scratched the discography. This i great stuff. Especially the fact that it sounds like you're actually playing your instruments, rather than pure sequencing/MIDI programming. I think that does a whole lot to add character and quality to a recording. Thanks. You're right, I make a point to actually perform all the recordings. It's time consuming for me because I'm not very good at playing the keyboard, and it always ends up a bit sloppy, but I think the effect is worth it. Just to let you guys know I'm continuing work on this stuff, but I think I'm going to stop posting the initial sketchings for now. I'm going to try to spend a month or so building these up to an album, with a few more tracks, but that's also a strict time limit so I imagine it'll still come out pretty raw and unpolished. And if I don't get any work done in the next month or so I'm just going to release these tracks as is. As you can probably guess by the song titles and pictures it's going to be based on Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll.

Yeah, it can be nice to sequence drums, but if 100% of the melodies are sequenced, the music does have a different character to me.

What I don't get is why this stuff isn't released physically, at least on tape. Even though I am just recently starting to wade through the Dungeons again, your stuff is easily among the best. I also like that you use concepts beyond the pure "nerd" stuff. Don't misunderstand, I love me some fantasy, but I really enjoy real/realistic historical, religious, occult etc themes. There is some cool stuff in the real world too, or at least there used to be, and there's plenty of dungeons to excavate.

Thanks, but if you thought that was dark and gloomy get ready. I'm not so sure about this one. I decided I wanted to contrast totally raw isolated samples with busy mangled patches, playing the same riff, with very abrupt transitions for the sake of clear textural comparison, so this is the result. Man, this one is so amazing. Very dark and with a unique character all its own. Definitely can't wait for more!

Love the idea of a dungeon synth album based on Through the Looking Glass. I know it's been said before, but there are so many directions people take this genre, and it's great. All of the tracks posted in this thread have been great too. Can't wait to hear the whole album!

YkcowrebbajJust a warning, this is very experimental, unpolished, and poorly-performed, so it might not be to everyone's liking. I'm mostly releasing Ykcowrebbaj for my own sense of continuity, so I can close the door on my half-realized material from the past few years and just reflect on it, and I figure some people might be interested to hear it as well.

I really liked it. I found Ykcowrebbaj very musical, with shape shifting atmospheres and a distinctive, obscure synth sound. Congrats.

I'm a few minutes in, but I'm already quite intrigued. Atypical but still classic feeling in that early BC DS way. Excited to hear more.

Thanks guys. "Early BC DS" sounds good in my book. There was a short-lived special feeling to that stuff, before it got really crowded.

I love it. It's so nice to hear DS artists taking risks while still maintaining many of the classic sound aesthetics. You have a clear command of your compositions, and it makes this for a very enjoyable listen!

I'll throw my hat into that ring. One of my favorite DS projects, for sure.

Thanks guys. I haven't gotten much done since Ykcowrebbaj, but I've been thinking about diving back into it here soon.

Well, seeing as it will probably be years before my next release, judging by my track record so far, here's something extra for anyone who might be interested. This is a weird album I made back in 2010 in about a week. I had it up on bandcamp for a few months, but I don't know if anyone listened to it. It's largely improvisational, like one-take improvisational, definitely shows off my lack of performance ability. It's not really dungeon synth (except the second track which is straight ds and actually holds up well I think), I'm not sure what category it would fall under, dark ambient maybe. Anyways, it ended up being a good warm-practice run for making Seven Wonders, which I started immediately afterward. It's a total mess and I don't know if it's worth listening to, but it's kind of interesting I think. I still give it a spin every now and then.
