Hail Dungeon Crawlers!
VotA-127 - Leander - On the Hall Hill...
In a bold shift of musical direction, Leander - the Folk Dungeon Synth project - unleashes a Black Metal stunner with ‘On The Hall Hill’. Featuring four lengthy tracks of early 90’s styled Black Metal intonations, the lo-fi production and depth of composition will instantly draw you in, while gritty riffs, tremolo picking and wondrous sense of melody supremely capture the essence of that classic extreme metal sound. Although each track is fastidiously arranged and beyond memorable, “Dogwood Winter” stands out as an instant classic in its own right. Massively impressive release, especially for a project just getting its feet wet in a different genre.
VotA-128 - Medieval Rites - The Greenwood Realm
‘The Greenwood Realm’ is a fitting title for this charming collection of middle age-inspired tunes and Medieval Rites perfectly seizes the crux of harmonious times, when peaceful festivities eclipsed the cycle of bloodshed and battle. The tenderness of these compositions, along with an empty audial architecture, devoid of multi-layered soundscapes and spacious ambience create a more focused environment of meditative sounds. There are a few tracks such as “Chant Of The Necromancer” and “The Forgotten Ruins” that dip into a tinge of dark space, but they placate the balance of the entire album without losing focus.
VotA-129 - Terratulia - Terratulia Tidings
‘Terratulia Tidings’ contains five tracks of irresistible Comfy Synth melodies that transcend the realm of Medieval bloodletting, ascending into a world of pensive harmony with trance-like synth effects with a focus on dreamy compositions. Effortlessly flowing from one track to the next, the lack of musical deviation creates a vibrant space of blissful relaxation and enjoyment. The pleasant vibe throughout produces an endless heart-warming effect, despite only being fourteen minutes long. The replay value is high for this album and it’s obvious that Terratulia has unlimited potential with hopefully many more albums to come.
VotA-130 - Angel - Songs of The Return
Angel is one of those artists that always succeeds in taking the listener on an array of musical adventures and even without knowing the style that a particular album may hold, rest assured that it’s always well worth the listen. ‘Song Of The Return’ is no different, as Angel presents a more serene vibe of flowing orchestrations and harmonious Ambient textures. Commencing with the title track that is over ten minutes long, each track progresses in a way that mimics the existence of being, from creation to conclusion. Each track builds up with climactic plangency, then ultimately ends with a stunning resonance that only Angel can perform.
