I just got back from a few days in Belgium, where I went to Dark Dungeon Fest II. It was a big lineup, a lot of artists I have admired for a long time getting up in front of us all to play some music. It was a really beautiful couple of days, and I got to meet plenty of nice DS folk.
My live highlights were: - Weress: truly mesmerising, I was lost in the performance. the costuming and masks were a level above. - Gothmog: utterly killed it as the last act on night one, not least for their brutal Summoning cover - Malfet's two different sets were both deeply moving and brought a lot of energy - Mork Og Lys: a beautiful, very theatrical set. they were joined on stage by the living metal statue, who was another non-musical highlight of the festival - Depressive Silence coming back and doing it all over again. drums, drums in the deep...
Non musical highlights: - meeting so many people I have known online from the community for years - meeting several artists who have inspired me greatly, not least Frostgard, Aura Merlin, Erang, Arcana Liturgia, Baddoar, Ancient King, DIM, Sombre Arcane - the positive and friendly vibe from the crowd was wonderful - the living metal statue - so much merch, lots of one-offs and things long unavailable. it was great to meet so many label folk too.
Would be great to read others' experiences! How did you all enjoy the festival?
