Obviously, if I was wiser, I would simply use my dormant powers of synthesis, but the world is not so just, is it? Can any literate and honorable man here list their recommendations for virtual instruments in the replies? I myself am currently using Decent Sampler almost exclusively along with a few sample packs for drums and iZotope Vinyl for texture.
Thank you kindly.

Korg M1 plugin is perfect for DS. Arturia emulations are good for your choice of synth, things like their CZ. DX7, Prophet VS, or whatever, if you want to spend a bit. Free I really like Tyrell N6. Spitfire LABS have a big collection of sample-based instruments, some of which are great for DS.

soundfonts soundfonts soundfonts This indeed. I'm still using the original 4MB General MIDI soundfont that came with my old SB Live! Platinum soundcard back in the late 90's. \o/

Not a VST, but you mention iZotope Vinyl. I used that all the time for older projects. Recently though I found Blowdio when looking for saturation effects.
I've started messing with it and I have started to like it a lot. I could see it easily replacing or complimenting iZotope.

Looks a lot like Baby Audio's stuff. If you haven't checked them out yet, they have a ton of great stuff, " Super VHS" and " TAIP" are the ones that Blowdio resembles.
Their new(ish) BA-1 synth is awesome for DS-type oldskool vibes, too.

BA-1 is honestly my first goto now when I'm starting out with an empty project and trying to decide what I'm going to do. I'll play around in it and wander through the presets and something will generally give me a spark.
