winter synth, cozy synth, and black ambient aside, I'm less talking about musical styling and more about aesthetic source material. rather than dungeons and dragons/Tolkien inspired medieval European, what about samurai dungeon synth? Aztec human sacrifice dungeon synth? what about Hindu deity dungeon synth? desert Bedouin dungeon synth (something like the recent emergence of Tuareg psychedelic guitar music)? I've already posted about ancient Egyptian mummy pyramid cursed tomb raiders dungeon synth once before. what about cannibal jungle tribesmen dungeon synth? some of this stuff may be B-movie fodder and certainly kind of a shallow reflection of the source material, but I think you'll know what I'm getting at. if you know of anything that fits into these kind of eccentric dungeon synth categories please recommend me some! or if you can think of some other fantasy genres I've missed, add some please!

Calignosia draws some influence from ancient Phoenicia, and uses a lot of oud too: calignosia.bandcamp.com/For something Aztec, there's Ximeua: ximeua.bandcamp.com/The main aesthetic ideas that have inspired my project have been the more Orientalist tones of Sword and Sorcery (most apparent, I think, in Moribund Dominions and Hermounts). The thematic material is ancient American, but since it's about lost civilizations whose locations are elusive and debated, I haven't really settled on any particular cultural area. But I've thought I might make more emphasis on my fascination with Anasazi/Ancestral Puebloan and Andean cultures going forward. I expect there's a lot more out there - that I'd also like to hear - so I'll be watching this thread.

Please pardon the self promotion, but I think my Old Moth Dreams project is in line with what you're looking for. There is a little bit of medieval European fantasy in my themes, but I primarily take an old pulp fantastic fiction approach, harkening back to the days of Weird Tales era pulp fiction, when the lines between horror, fantasy, and science fiction weren't as clearly drawn. Each track is intended as a stand-alone short story, the title being a creative prompt to daydream about while listening. oldmothdreams.bandcamp.com/album/in-the-lee-of-the-witchs-tree

That Calignosia record is awesome and definitely has the Phoenician sailor feeling nailed down, but I wish Ximeua used more eccentric instruments because I just can't really hear the Aztec human sacrifice atmosphere I'm looking for. I think what would really work would be some martial/ritual elements with drums and noise instruments like the death whistle. Thanks for the kind words soarloser. All of what you mentioned and more went in there. Hala Strana is a drone artist outside of DS that occurred to me that might scratch your itch, a deep and dreamy Eastern European vibe: worstward.bandcamp.com/album/heave-the-gambrel-roof

I'm currently working on an EP that is themed around the Greek mythology. I've put a couple songs on YouTube already: www.youtube.com/watch?v=enijW9yPuRg&ab_channel=SimeonNeesewww.youtube.com/watch?v=8GxKyNiTbd0&ab_channel=SimeonNeeseI don't know if these are really that much different than your standard DS (I'm fairly new here), but I haven't seen many albums specifically targeting Greek myth- in my case the Greek creation myth.

Hi folks, here's a Spotify playlist about desert synth that might be interesting:
The lists of Jessieye on Rate your music are interesting to discover new themes in dungeon synth.
Best regards!

this is right up my alley - I love diplodocus, which is def adjacent to this. they're responsible for what I think is the bleakest, darkest song title in the genre: Faint Burning Glimmer in the Mesozoic Sky I'm glad something this good exists in this style, rather than the inauthentic B-movie interpretation I imagined initially this is super original and really defied my expectations, very nice! these are all great suggestions! I'm glad I found what I was looking for. still searching for a few obscure aesthetics tho
