andrewwerdna : Btw, very cool stuff those Hapax and Bragolin you posted on the previous page! Although not having too deep knowledge of the styles/genres, I like all kinds of goth rock and gothic-vibe synth/darkwave (and in a way or another relatable stuff) a lot. One of my all-time favourites is Deine Lakaien, got their whole discography in my CD collection. I do believe in autumn
When the leaves will glow and fall
And the music will glide away
And the world disappears in grey
And recurrence slumbers in decay

talvisynthI've been on a big darkwave kick lately, it gets my blood pumping and gives me goosebumps a lot, and especially Hapax I've been listening to a bunch. I think all their albums rule and the music videos are awesome too. I thought a knew a thing or two about the genre but apparently not because I had never heard of Deine Lakaien and they seem like a big deal. I liked those songs you posted and listened to a couple of their albums today. Honestly the vocals took a little getting used to, but I love how wild and unique their synths are, and just in general they seem very inventive. They actually remind me of Sopor Aeternus quite a bit at times, I'm guessing they were probably an influence. I liked this song especially from what I heard:

I definitely need to check out more stuff from Hapax; the singer sounded great and the song had a nice vibe to it. Deine Lakaien is indeed an outstanding and unique group. I remember when I heard them for the first time somewhere back in '06-'07 or so, I think it was the album Kasmodiah (1999), and the synths combined with the vocals by Alexander Veljanov hit me instantly there and then. Then ofc, their most avangardistic and experimental pieces are perhaps a bit too much even for my head, but generally I think they've got marvellous stuff throughout their works. Reincarnation you linked is one of my biggest favorite songs from their older material. Aah, Sopor Aeturnus, been too long since I listened to them; as I've got background in North European trad. folk music, Todeswunsch is my absolute fav. album in its medieval/renaissance atmospheres and melodies. \o/

I like Sopor Aeternus a lot. I discovered them trying to find more stuff like Mortiis back before dungeon synth had a searchable name, and the more neoclassical side-project Nenia C'Alladhan was one of the closest things I could find initially, which I thought was great. I didn't really know what to make of the main project though, but I kept being drawn back to it, and I suppose that is still the case all these years later. I can't listen to it very much because it makes me miserable, but there are times when I sort of need to listen and it is cathartic. I throw on the songs Hades Pluton and Dead Souls all the time because those are just great jams that will never get old, and I try and check if there are any new music videos periodically. Listening to whole Sopor Aeternus albums is another story though, as they are quite challenging and can be a bit of an ordeal to get through I find, but usually rewarding and worth it. My favorite one and usually the first I listen to whenever I'm revisiting is Songs from the Inverted Womb, followed by Es reiten die Toten so schnell, and by then I'm usually too exhausted to listen to any more so I'm not sure about the rest of the discography though I have enjoyed other albums.

I think I'm going to start going through this band's discography tomorrow. They have a Sisters of Mercy - Nine Wile Nine cover that I've liked for a long time, but I'm just now listening to other songs by them and really digging all of them.

Are there any cooler live synth performances than this?

Interesting context info in the video description. A very nice story indeed! I'm a huge fan of 90's tracker music and demoscene stuff myself *), thus always nice to read some interesting background info in addition to hearing a song I didn't know of before. Also that AdLib -song is nice! While at it, here's a couple of cool tracks from 2 of my all-time fav. tracker musicians: *) Back in the day I had Gravis Ultrasound in my 486DX2 PC, and all this tracker stuff sounded crystal clear through that. However, I never got my head around any of the many tracker softwares myself in those times though, but then got into ray-tracing on POV-Ray and dreamed of joining the ray-tracing compos in f.ex. Assembly gatherings etc. Unfortunately, never got even that far; I was still young and dependent on my family which never understood my enthusiasm nor supported me in my creations, so I just ended up as solitary hobbyist fiddling around at home while watching everything from a distance. Btw, I still use POV-Ray in my indie game creations.

I don't know much about tracker music, never messed with that kind of software, but I generally like it when I hear it. And I have thought for a long time that as well as retro synths people should probably be making use of old soundcards for dungeon synth, but I never looked into how music production would work with that, but yeah it sounds like tracker software is the way. Seems like a lot of work to learn how to use, but I suppose that's part of the fun like learning a weird old synth. I need to go back through this thread, but I chanced about this compilation not too long ago and thought it was awesome.
