I'm trying hard to recruit artists! A number are really interested! Any advice on how to cut artists in? The dungeon isn't really an income-generating place, but it feels wrong not to compensate original illustration. Should we kick back some of the tape/dl money, even if it's only like $10 total? I was thinking it also might be cool to sell prints of the artwork on bandcamp next to the album. Would people buy? Would artists be into that? I'm thinking about working together with someone and I feel pretty un-educated here. That's a really good question. It's always best to pay an artist something, even if it's a very small amount. I've been talking to a number of artists about collaborating with dungeon synth composers and I'm getting a variety of responses. I told them there was little or no money in doing covers. Some were totally into the idea of a collaboration with no money being exchanged and some preferred to offer older artwork they had already done. So, while it's always good to pay an artist even a token amount it really depends on the individual artist. I'm working on a couple of dungeon synth covers and I'm personally very happy to do it in exchange for a cassette.

I would be glad to work in exchange for tapes too. It would also be nice to design some t-shirts for the bands and get a couple of shirts so I can hide my battle scars from direct sunlight.

Bauer is one of my favourite artists. I'm surprised I haven't seen more Theodore Kittlesen, another amazing troll artist Yes. Those two are among the best troll artist of Scandinavia. Rolf Lidberg should also be mentioned. He does more family friendly troll and gnomes drawings. Often seen on postcards and school-posters around here.

Hi guys, I've been listening to Dungeon Synth for about a year now and have only just found this site. So hopefully you'll welcome me! I'm looking to start my own DS project up soon, but that's another story. I'm also here to say that I'm an illustrator and would love to contribute something to anyone interested! I have a Facebook and Instagram page if anyone wants to take a look at my work, but I also have a private portfolio of my best works that I can send you if interested (rather than looking through all of my sketches and things on my social media pages). Please let me know! I have a mixture of different styles, but I imagine you guys would be most interested in my ink style. www.facebook.com/delanceythroneartrw Insta - delanceythrone_art Hope to hear from you soon, guys!

I know that this thread had a specific purpose (book illustration) but would it be ok if I hijack it as a general artwork thread instead of creating a new one?

I don't think anyone will mind if it's Dungeon Synth related in aesthetics, if not just create a new thread so maybe other people post relevant stuff too there..

As I am currently rereading the wonderful LONE WOLF game books by Joe Dever, I realized how absolutely great those reads go along with Dungeon Synth and also how great Gary Chalk's illustrations accompany the novels but also would make up for fantastic DS artwork. These books are so great and giving me major nostalgia (loved them as a kid/teenager) and it is amazing what Joe Dever did here also in terms of world-building! Gary Chalk also did many stuff for Games Workshop btw. Here are some examples form some of the books I just re-read: anyone here familiar with artwork prices from DS illustrators? No, not really. All I can tell you is that my prices for logo design are based on what the customer has in mind and vary. A fully coloured, effect-ladden logo designed from scratch takes way more time than a more basic b/w logo. I extremely rarely do "sum x / hour" charges as most of my clients are small bands or just single projects where paying, say 500 β¬, would never every in any way be reasonable (totally understable!), so I listen to what they want and try to meet with them on a basis where a price is reasonable and I still get sth for my work. So probably you would directly have to ask an artist you may have in mind...

Just finished some kind of "fanart" (so to say) to the genre... It's just a rather simple typography based design but I tried to give it a fitting vintage RPG / pulp fantasy kind of style... Also gave it a rather heavy used-look. Maybe you guys like it, too - so here it is:

I usually just steal some art from artists of the Romantic Era or sometimes earlier, though generally it dates around the 18th to 19th centuries. I've used art by Samuel Scott and Caspar David Friedrich, though my favorite artist at the moment has to be Thomas Cole.
