The version on Aspera Hiems Symfonia was my introduction to Arcturus - but this early version has such a more chaotic feel, it's really great. I wish I liked anything they had done after Sham Mirrors.

I pretty much just listen to Aspera Hiems Symfonia, but one album is enough for me to be really enthusiastic about a band. I actually just discovered this Reconstellation release earlier this year and haven't gotten the album yet. La Masquerade Infernale is really cool, but it's kind of different from the earlier vision, akin to Mortiis - Smell of Rain. Speaking of which...

Very true. I sometimes think of Arcturus as an alternate-universe Ulver - i.e. started with a very clearly defined vision of melodic/symphonic black metal, and then almost immediately going off the rails with that vision.
