talvisynth man og System Shock + 2 are both on my to play list forever , feel especially bad about it... I was looking forward to this remake but I think either this or another maybe cancelled(?) remake that had some issues - a kickstarted one-, kinda completely halted my interest in it.. Hope they done the service the game deserves and hopefully gonna check out this modern version.... Currently I'm ~5 hours into System Shock Remake, and so far I've had a blast exploring the Citadel Station. First and foremost it has a strong feel of "made by fans for fans", so those new to the original SS1 may have harder times getting into what this game is about, find a lot of the design and general execution very outdated and even clunky, lacking a deal of modern quality of life features etc., but for a gamer dinosaur like me, this is a great peace of work! The remake is very loyal to the original game from 1994 in many ways, and I was excited to even discover some hidden doors/hatches from the old memory; was happy to see they had included those too! Ofc, they've added new stuff like scrapping junk items into currency that can be used on vending machines for ammo, medkits and so on, and also the virtual reality sections have gone through a major facelift and those are actually quite trippy now. But the maps, locations, enemies, guns (except dart gun & flechette gone and riot gun replaced by shotgun) and how the areas play out are pretty much the way they were back in the day. I think my only minor issue with the game is the soundtrack which seems to be rather subtle and minimal ambient with just a bit of change in pace and rhythm during combat, but otherwise the audial atmosphere is a lot more serene and almost cozy compared to the memorable, often even hostile sounding and absolutely iconic bangers of the original soundtrack. Instead of some calm and organic meditation jamming I would have expected to hear rather cold, inorganic, error-glitchy and computerized soundscapes which really tell the player that they are now encountering a rogue AI about to blast the whole humankind as we know it out of its puny existence. EDIT: But at least the uptone jazzy elevator music is still there! EDIT_2: Reactor deck has elements from the original song embedded to the ambient! Oh yes! EDIT_3: Actually, it seems the soundtrack has familiar elements pretty much across the board! Minor issue removed together with ethical constraints!

System Shock Remake finally played through! 53,6 hours in total, and I really had a blast! Highly recommended, especially for the fans of the original and why not also SS2. Game of the year for me hands down! Next in line: Diablo IV. My necromancer is currently at level 20, and although just in the very beginning, the game feels ok so far, the aesthetics are spot on, gfx is great and the audio side also works nicely. Still a bit lost and mostly just running around, exploring stuff and generally taking it easy, as always while leveling for the first time and everything is still new, odd and waiting to be discovered. Most likely not making this a matter of heart though, as I've got plenty of other stuff on my to-play list on Steam as well, in addition to projects, other hobbies and well... actual life too.

talvisynth niiiiiiiiiice So, what should I play wheeen damn time allows me ? Original or remaster ? Or simply remaster ? Even though your comment on the different soundtrack is very important since I'd rather go with original soundtrack.. worth it otherwise or Quality of Life improvements are worth it? Thoughts ? Thankfully I've finished and loved and adored Deus Ex even not directly related so I guess I can beg a pardon Grats for finishing it through As for Diablo 4, for all this decade I've been burnt and spent thousands of hours logged enjoying the hack n slashfest that is D3 which I adore (not so much of an rpg indeed) and I'm kinda sceptical to buy D4 and not start since I don't feel like it for now.. Although a factor could be the tight budget I am currently and probably saving the same amount of money to get Baldur's Gate 3 which is FINALLY released complete late August which I really do wanna play immediately (having finished the original trilogy, didn't go far into the remasters though in my recently attempt to replay but I still LOVE my original complete playthrough, along with Planescape Torment (of course) they are not just the best RPGs but in the eternal halls of fame of computer and video games So to sum it up, saving money for BG3 BUT I wanna play D4 when time and budget allows, probably when a price cut or an expansion comes if soon

I don't like the Diablo after the 2... I play to diablo 2 when i was child but i never like the feeling after it... too modern i guess for a diablo in my mind maybe. I prefer to play to Skyrim, Oblivion etc... Since few days i replay to Skyrim because i search good immersive fantasy video games to give me inspiration in music creating, so if you have good old school fantasy video games with good lore and very the world, tell it please i'm here to play them !!!!

Hello hadstur and welcome to the forum!! I would immediately suggest you to play the Infinity Engine games I mentioned in my previous post above and mentioned many times in this forum and everywhere, they are works of art in my opinion, perfect PERFECT use of the medium of games, rpgs, story telling, everything!! Baldur's Gate 1+2+Throne of Bhaal and Planescape are beyoned essential!!! If you want to take it more slow getting used to the engine (which is PERFECT) Icewind Dale 1 and 2 are ALSO great and a little more concentrated/short so you can wet your feet in them which again, are also perfect games If you have explored the Infinity Engine games already and want to go really really oldschool, definitely try Ultima Underwold which is cult, classic, revered, pioneer, everything really, great game in its time but might need you to get used to its back then revolutionary first person engine!! But its a great world in it, dark and VERY dungeon synthy since you're into an 8-level "dungeon" essentially... So atmospheric.. If you want a more classic 3rd perspective with some nice world exploring Dark Sun 1 is also a perfect gem, (I haven't ever finished/gone far in Dark Sun 2 to recommend it but first one was great and still holds great as a game and experience today!!).. I saw also in the other thread you play Magic, nice many people here also, we've had some discussions here already but I will once more propose you to play "Manalink" , Microproses very user-fans-modified edition with thousands upon thousands of cards to play and test agains AI, if you haven't looked into engines as such and only sticked to cardboard or Arena/Online, these engines and especially Manalink which is outdated but SO FUCKING GREAT as a user interface and fast to play.. Totally recommend it!!

GReat mate, I won't give any more recommendations then since just the Infinity Engine games (BG Trilogy,Planescape,Icewind Dales 1&2+) are going to give you occupied for months and you gonna have the fun of a lifetime I promise As for Manalink, the dev team nowadays unfortunately is very small so they add new cards slowly, Kaldheim cards haven't been integrated but they have added other recent sets (Strixhaven,MHorizons 2) and with a pool of thousands of decks to play against (all available at their forum "Slightly Magic" I think) you can be easily turned into a hermit playing Magic all day long If you have any trouble with installation, downloading, decks etc feel free to post or pm me and anyone reading, I recommend it above everything and even more so than the slow Arena if you don't mind playing against the AI and some slight faults it does (still GREAT games and great to play your actual decks, that's what I do, I have passed my whole inventory in decks and create new decks just looking at the 2nd screen/PC , having a blast and Manalink made me buy some good amount of MtG after many years )!! Regards and welcome again!!

Both are experiences on their own and worth it all the way. hadstur : As for RPGs, crystallogic13 already gave some nice recommendations, and to add some old-school titles that came to mind: Ultima, Wizardry, Eye of the Beholder + other SSI games, Betrayal At Krondor & Betrayal In Antares, and Exile & Avernum (and other Spiderweb Software games). All are game series so there's plenty to explore. Check these out at GOG, Steam and/or abandonware sites, most of these can be found there. talvisynth made a great list but beware, some games(and gems ) may not be very welcoming today due to either missing quality of life improvements/oldschool design/mapping needed etc etc. All of them though great Specifically, Ultimas 1-3 imho can safely be skipped today, while they use the top down in the overworld, dungeons are really really primitive 1st person abstract mazes to map and I think you can safely skip to 4. Ultima 4 was and still is revolutionary though, I'm pretty sure even many remakes on it exist like an old one in Dungeon Siege 1 engine, but the original is the way to go for a first play through, big, complicated, ethical and a milestone for the genre.. I would propose if you get to start Ultima main series you go from 4 and upwards (source : I've only FINISHED Ultima 1-3 in the 90s and felt like a chore, played for a good amound Ultima 4 but never finished it, although I own from way back all the series I never got to play any other Ultima title from 5 onwards (maybe except a little Ultima 7 P.1 and Ultima IX when it was brand new 3d and brand buggy )... Ultima 4's eight virtues logic and the whole game in general are considered classics and if you want to go with them Ultima 4 is a good start, although people have loved Ultima VII complete and VIII:Pagan ... There are two more Ultimas, Martian Dreams and Savage Empire I think, in the Ultima 5-6 engine, so you can also try them since they are seperate from the series.. BUT imho Ultima Underworld 1 is my favorite of the "Ultima" titles, revolutionary 1st person 3d, a great world and played it endless hours back at the day.. I feel bad for not having followed either UUnderworld 2 nor Ultimas 6-8/9 but like many other games I save em "for the appropriate" time which always never comes ... For the Wizardry's I have no personal opinion, but if you gonna get to play that classic series too I think you can mostly ignore the Wizardry 1-5 and start with 6 and especially Wizardry VII is the title that's mostly revered.. Wizardry VIII also appealed to fans of the series as I remember and there's Wizards and Warriors (PC 2000s release, not the NES game ) which is in the same vein.. Haven't played more than 5 minutes any of them so no personal opinion, this is from what I've read through years and stayed with me.. The Forgotten Realms Archives are a good collection ( I own it physical from way back then ) and you can find there Eye of the Beholder trilogy which is STILL GREAT today, the pinnacle of the series is EotB 2 and it's totally recommended, I've played a good chunk of EotB 1 recently and still had great fun and some EotB 2 back in the day which had us all mesmerised.. Finally Betrayal at Krondor might be one of my favorite and underrated RPGs, I think Raymond Feist contributed to it but either way the game was GREAT with different perspectives and main characters to control with storyline and chapters unfolding really great game witch strategic battles and great world ...I played it late very late in summer 2000 but had a blast, waiting then to upgrade from my ancient back then 386 after a few months to the then new powerhouse Pentium III/ 800mhz, big leap after many years of having my old outdated DOS PC serving me well... Totally recommended of course.. It also had two sequels in the CD era, dunno which one is considered best...

I'll be sure to investigate some of those old school RPGs listed above
I have recently been playing Goat Sim on the Switch and just started playing Gunman Taco Truck on the PC which is a real time eater and very fun

Anybody else playing Baldur's Gate 3? It has been so long since any game hooked me like this, I was beginning to wonder if maybe I just didn't enjoy gaming anymore, but no I'm loving this game. It lives up to all the hype imo. I'm playing a dwarf barbarian, and I got a bunch of gear on him that uses electricity so that enemies get zapped when they try to hit him, and he's got a pair of boots that electrify any water he's standing on, so I'll usually send him to the front lines and conjure a huge pool of water around the enemies. One time a bunch of allied npcs joined me for a big battle, but one of the npcs cast some ice spell which caused my electric water pool to freeze and everyone was slipping on their asses while epic climactic music blared. Lots of funny emergent moments like that.

andrewwerdna : Ah yes, BG3 still on my to-play list when a suitable moment hopefully comes. Been hearing only good stuff from people, so will deffo give it a go. \o/ Recently been having nostalgy/re-play trips with good ol' Sierra games; just made it through King's Quest 1 & 2 and proceeded onwards to 3, while taking a breather from Space Quest in which I'm on the 5th atm. For other point & clicks, also managed to get Discworld Noir working in Win10 so that'll follow after Sierra classics. As for other games, also logging in the retail WoW almost daily to fiddle around with some alts or weekly quests etc. Oh, and yesterday I purchased Disco Elysium as it was -75% on Steam, already started a custom character and will probably spend most of this Saturday goofing around with this one.

talvisynthAre you playing those Sierra games using walkthroughs? I've always loved Lucasarts point and clicks but could never get into Sierra games, kind of intimidated by how insane the puzzles can be and how easy it is to softlock yourself. I had King's Quest 5 when I was a kid though and have some nostalgia for that even though I wasn't able to make any real progress. I've watched video playthroughs of a lot of those games though, even like Mystery House, that stuff is all very interesting to me historically. Disco Elysium I really want to get into. I've started playing it several times and was loving the writing, but it just hasn't been able to hook me yet. One of these days...
