Xenobioz - A Dying Legend (2010) is a very interesting album. It seems like quite a forgotten gem because I never see it mentioned at all, and it really is quite good. It might not be absolutely pure DS, maybe more fantasy electronic reminiscent of Jim Kirkwood, but I think it's close enough to be considered the same sort of thing but perhaps arrived at from a different angle. It's got quite a dark, almost claustrophobic sort of sound, lots of minor scales. There's a pretty even mix between alien synthesized sounds and more familiar sorts of samples, the violin is especially heavy. It is rather sparse and minimalist, very few layers, and it can be repetitive, but the composition always seems to be going somewhere new and interesting so it's still quite an engaging experience. I'm not sure why but it gives me the impression of Victorian decor, like being trapped in a stuffy room cluttered with antique furniture, everything moth-eaten and covered in dust. I'm giving this its own thread because I don't think it gets any real exposure, but it deserves at least a thread of its own so it doesn't go totally forgotten. It can be downloaded for free here: www.xenobioz.com/2010/07/dying-legend.html

Thanks for the tip. It sounded to me like the soundtrack of a melancholic stop-motion film. Solid composition and effective climates. Perhaps it doesn't sound like dungeon synth, but it's undoubtely a beautiful work.

Thanks for posting! This sounds exactly like what I've been looking to listen to lately: perfect atmosphere.
