All - I'm looking for some advice on finding sound effects to add as "accents" to dungeon music. I'm sure you know what I mean - rain & thunder, creaking doors, wind through trees, the usual.
Are there any solid online libraries worth browsing through? Search keywords with good results?
Thanks for the help.

Personal field recordings are always kool, too. I would say most people just rip audio from youtube videos these days.

You may try www.findsounds.com/www.freesound.org/ as far as I remember, they are free to download. It's a great idea to rip sounds from videos and games, but after that I usual process the ripped fx for making it a bit more adequate and personal. Any fx that could be easily identified (specially from well known games and movies) may be distracting for the listener.

I know you are asking for online sound effect archives and I do not know. I want to give a good advice. Since the melodies are done with synths you van make your songs more wide, deep and dynamiv by using sounds not synthesized as effects. Sample dem on a cassetrecorder or whatever from whatever and dub them over by computer. Just paste it all over. Get it from mobies, tv, radio, nature or whatever. Mixing computer generated sounds with other kinds of recorded stuff makes it so dynamic. I love i

This is pretty much the exact thought that started me on this quest. I like the idea of placing the nearly "cheesy" sounds of the synths I'm using into a real-world context. Brings about the idea of the sonic mood/environment/image existing in reality and not just a casio soundbank.

Totally agree - readily identifiable sfx are incredibly distracting & tend to break the immersion effect with a sense of "oh, is something running in the background." I'll definitely take your advice on processing sfx - I've been working mostly hardware, but maybe it's finally time to learn Audacity...

Are you looking for free sounds? If you are willing to purchase sounds, what is your budget?
