I love the dudes who did the older Warhammer books - Ian Miller, Simon Bisley, Adrian Smith, John Blanche. For more traditional artists, I like Harry Clarke, Frank Frazetta, and Arthur Rackham. Rodney Matthews is a bit more trippy and less dungeon-y but I love him. I'll try to post some pictures later on.

Growing up, I was always a sucker for these book covers. Little did I know this was a Richard Corben cover (RIP). Here's one of my favorite creatures he did, the demon worm from Bloodstar (1979):

Magic the Gathering indeed is a world of its own in art.. As well as oldschool TSR since we're at it But regarding MtG, especially the good old classic sets have excellent artwork.. The magical theme of Arabian Night make it my most loved, with for example art like that of Diamond Valley being exactly what it should be, but all the sets from that era, Legends, Antiquities, The Dark... All of them had great artwork.. And from then on, you can find throughout all years, from Ice Age, Mirage, Urza's Saga, and many many even very recent sets I still always enjoy the artwork especially the alternate editions like from recent Adventures in the Forgotten Realms. Not that you aren't already paying them high price that they ought to have some good quality as they do.. And they deliver on this at least ..
