Dunno but where did he state that " put out so many albums making a point of returning to the old way and magic" ? Because someone could argue that he just created art/music as he felt at that time, and he just releases it now because he feels people appreciate his music ? I like to think positively on people if I don't have opposite clues..
Also, what did Blackie Lawless do ? Cause as far as I know he is a legend from the 80s with W.A.S.P. and don't see/know the connection...

Ah thanx element0s, I didn't know about Blackie - I do though about Mustaine , also about Nicko McBrain (I can sympathize though since I believe in Christ) .. I haven't listened to any new releases of WASP for years to be honest, but I love their old classics and still have 2 on LPs/Vinyl (The Headless Children of course and Still not Black Enough which I didn't like much back then)..

Cause as far as I know he is a legend from the 80s with W.A.S.P. and don't see/know the connection... I have a massive collection of his cds and I always got the vibe that he was a right into the 'old ways' and fairies and witches and magic and quite against Christianity. For example one of his other projects was called "Lucifaere" and had an album called "One Amongst The Fallen". This a quote from his Jim Kirkwood album "Hammer of the North"; "This music was inspired by the myths and religion of Northern Europe which, before the coming of Christianity, flourished in an area from Germany to Iceland, including the British Isles. On pain of death of our ancestors, like many other cultures around the world, were forced to accept an alien religion. In more recent times however, there has been a reawakening interest in the Old Gods/Goddesses and a revival of the religion which never completely died, but rather slept in the folk soul of the people. To what extent this religion (Asatru-true to the gods) returns, remains to be seen. This music is my contribution to the current wave and is my offering to the once and future gods." JIM KIRKWOOD ' I Shall not rest 'neath sun nor moon Till Charlemagne's deeds are all undone'. If you are unaware Charlemagne campaigned against the Saxons Christianising them upon penalty of death and ordered the death of 4,500 Saxons in October 782 at the Massacre of Verden. Charlemagne claimed suzerainty over Saxony and in 772 destroyed the Irminsul, and important object in Saxon paganism, during his intermittent campaign to Christianize the Saxons. So now he is a Christian? Go figure haha

I love seeing Kirkwood returning to old pieces/moods etc with new ears and recontextualising them to match his personal transformation. It's also pretty interesting watching someone effectively inculturate Christianity into dungeon synth.

Didn't he recently release something inspired by Narnia? I thought that was new.

He seems like a nice guy and his music is cool, but c'mon, who did he influence before 2015 or whatever? I need to see some evidence.

I don't think I had heard Kirkwood's music until around that time and it surprised me that I hadn't heard it before. In the Wayback Machine, it looks like Jim's personal webpage first popped up around 2009. I would venture to say that his music took off 2015-2016ish with the uploads on YouTube and eventually becoming correlated with DS, though from a different branch than black metal, etc. I'm not a Kirkwood expert by any means, so apologies if I'm off the mark here.

There is an extensive and very thourough interview with him in the spiritually themed dark music fanzine: Quagmire...I'm not sure if you can still get your hands on it? I learnt most of his history from that and it covers his journey right from the early DS days through to the post-christian revival era for him. So sad to lose him, but great he's becoming so revered as he deserves. quagmiremagazine.bandcamp.com/

It's also pretty interesting watching someone effectively inculturate Christianity into dungeon synth. That interests me for sure, since that's also what I hope to do.
