Anybody has some information on this mystery? It seems that there is not much info about the Artist, and i am very curious about his part in the DS scene. Was he aware of Burzum or Mortiis? Was he one of the founders of DS? His album "Where Shadows Lie" seems to be the first Dungeon Synth album according to DISCOGS: (I have sorted "Dungeon Synth" by oldest first: www.discogs.com/search/?sort=year%2Casc&q=dungeon+synth&type=release)He is one of my favorite artists, his sounds are truely outwordly. |

Very interesting find! I've never heard of him. This album can be found there: jimkirkwood.bandcamp.com/releases There is only the first, sadly! His discography is huge (I see more than the albums listed on discogs), and it seems mostly relates to... Tolkien! The music is great, some parts are more rock, or electronica, yet some parts are very DS in spirit, and it pre-dates (1990) Burzum, Mortiis, Summoning, and even Black Aria by Danzig. Can't find any clue about his label too: "Label started in 1989 by Jim Kirkwood to publish his own style of Gothic Electronic Music. All catalog items are free to download since 2008.". |

I knew about Jim Kirkwood time ago, but I 've researched about his work only recently. Without having listened anything, I always thought that he made something similar to Tangerine Dream.
I'm a follower of Uruk Hai's (Austria) work, and when I realized that the project Drachenfeuer was a collaboration between Uruk Hai and Jim Kirkwood, I tried to learn something more about this musician. It seems many of his work was released only in CDR or cassette, and his work has many aspects. His albums are unique in themselves, but for giving a context, I could say that some pieces are similar to Tangerine Dream (but only similar, I like JK much more); other albums are close to Jean Michel Jarre. Anyway, I'm sure that several albums are undoubtely related to the Dungeon Synth.
I've listened many, but not all of them yet. What I can say is each one of them are really interesting and, musically speaking, very well crafted. And I liked them a lot.
This is the information of the releases that I found. Some of them are under an alternative project name, and I didn't listened to them yet, except for Drachenfeuer, that I consider a masterpiece.

That discography is absolutely ridiculous!
I've listened to 3 or 4 of them...can we maybe start getting some good album recommendations for DS people from those who know Kirkwood's work a bit more extensively? Which are ones with that JMJ sound, too?
So far Drachenfeuer (2017) has been tooted for.

The Drachenfeuer album was in the 'vaults' for some years after its completion, and was only just released this year (late last year) And I assume it is common knowledge, but worth mentioning - the reason he has stopped making music in this style is that he had a mid-life conversion to Christianity, and disavowed his former works with Gnostic and Fantasy themes. He still has a website up, but it focuses now on his work as a landscape painter (not very good IMO) and is full of New Testament quotes. |

But the story of Jim converted to Christianity appeares in his Last fm page, where also his portrait picture is the same as one of his drawings in his site. |

This is brilliant news, it would have been a massive shame for there not to be a legal/official place to listen to Jim's music - it's a real piece of history (as well as a great series of records)! It seems that all people contacting him convinced him that his oeuvre was worth preserving.

I am confused about whether he was a Pagan whom put out so many albums making a point of returning to the old way and magic who suddenly turned Christian and wanted to burn it all but now he is back again? To cash in on bandcamp? Sounds like Blackie Lawless? It seems strange to me how people could be so fanatical about something then do the old 180 degree spin on things?
