Of course the genre of dungeon synth and all it's stem styles branches out further than this forum and the facebook group, but I think these mediums alone have helped influence, promote and help the genre grow.
My girlfriend who isn't involved in the scene noticed that we are like a family, I feel everyone know everyone, despite there being a lot of us haha. There is certainly a brotherhood mindset; if a project/musician buys my tape I go buy his. The mutual support is crucial and we all seem to automatically inherit it.
I don't know what I'm getting at here but just thought I'd say ha.

Love is in the air...
Seriously now, I guess the community is small but passionate, we care for our small niche and we like to support and encourage each other. Hopefully, this warm blaze of love continues to burn strong for many years to come. Dungeon synth may sometimes sound cold and dark and distant, but the people behind the music are usually the opposite.

Strange you say this because to be honest I think the scene is extremely competitive due to the fact that there are so bands out there and have I received support for my music in regards to the amount of support I have selflessly beget upon others? Fuck no! I say this jokingly because seriously I do not care for money. I much prefer to give than receive. Regardless most in the scene are either poor due to circumstance (which I can understand to a certain extent lots of students etc),or worse tight arses or worse again arrogant and think they are more talented than everyone else. But on the other hand yeah there are some good old souls here who I look up too for sure so I hear ya man

TBH lately things are kinda quiet here (the FB group has always activity though but I ALWAYS prefer the forum and its organization) ..
On the other hand, maybe it is seasonal and as winter approaches the wolves and sheep start gathering again..
(and to be more honest, I think the "outreach" and publicity era kinda have come to an end and things are naturally taking their time..)

The scene is quite a bit bigger than it was even just a year ago, but it's definitely still a tight knit community. What I find interesting is that the scene is solely based online. I've made many good friends through dungeon synth but I've never once met them in person, and I probably never will because they live half the world away.

I only just found out about this forum, but I already prefer it over facebook.

I don't know of a true dungeon synth group. I've read some stuff here and I suppose there is a group and maybe some drama involved but that is outside the music. If that isn't a secret page then do post a link as I think it would be appreciated by more than just me.
In any case I was late to the party and noticed that VOL. VII of the DS Collection has been released so I think maybe things will start to happen going to the end of the year..

Glad I'm not the only one who has noticed it's been a bit sluggish. Have tried to boost things a bit here and telling people about the forum on FB. When there has been slow spells in the past, it's just because people are busy. Facebook is simple, fast, and ephermeral. Constant new conversations. I like forum organization more because you can look back on conversations more. Necroposting is totally welcomed here, revive as many old threads as you wish. I feel that some of the hype is dying off, too. I see many people using the term DS who know what it means, listeners seem more knowledgeable. There are still "so what's this dungeon synth thing" articles every so often, but they've been getting better and people are more comfortable with finding the DS sounds they enjoy. The scene is quite a bit bigger than it was even just a year ago, but it's definitely still a tight knit community. What I find interesting is that the scene is solely based online. I've made many good friends through dungeon synth but I've never once met them in person, and I probably never will because they live half the world away. Sometimes people resent the tag of 'internet genre', but it's worked fine for DS. Not sure how else a scene for obscure synth projects spread vastly across the world would exist without the kind of contact we've had so far. There's lots of support for each other. I only just found out about this forum, but I already prefer it over facebook. It's definitely very fast. There are always the 'hey who are some good artists and where do I buy tapes?' posts like once a week since everything gets pushed down. That's why I like the forum format. Less of a 'stream' and more of a 'space'. I'm not really interested in internet service centralization. I think Facebook is just easier for people since they use it for other things outside of DS, meaning one less site to visit. Oh well.
