Hi all, I'm an aspiring blackened dungeon synth artist from Vermont who goes by the name of Poppet. A poppet is the English equivalent to a voodoo doll. Much of my music revolves around world cultures and religion, especially that of Tibet and the Himalayas. I also include a lot of references to pop culture and cartoons, especially the Cthulhu Mythos. As for the style of the music, it's black ambient/dungeon synth, inspired heavily from Burzum, as well as Aniroe (an obscure polish Dark Ambient/black metal band). Comparisons have been drawn to the 70s Doctor Who theme and the works of John Carpenter. I released one full-length and one EP. The full-length has more black metal influence and the EP is more straight dungeon synth. poppetblackmetal.bandcamp.compoppetblackmetal.bandcamp.com/album/enter-the-numinous-realmpoppetblackmetal.bandcamp.com/album/transdimensional-travelogues-epI'd love to get my work more well known. I don't think it's as good as many of the stuff here, because it was made in garageband and barely mastered, but at any rate, I'd love to hear any feedback of any kind.

I'm having a nice time imagining what the combination of those two influences would sound like. Looking forward to hearing it.

Just listened to some of your stuff and I found it really interesting because of the "conscious irriverence" you put in a DS key. I think you've got chances of improvement, too. Which I don't like that much, is how the vocals are mixed: I mean, they are good (especially when whispering black metal) but I would like to hear them more "blended" with the instrumental parts. You can try some ambience effect on the vocals group..... sometimes it works on the master-bus too (I did that way on "The Pyre of Witches" and the result really impressed me).

thanks for replying! I was experimenting a bit with the vocals on one track, adding more fuzz and reverb, the track auspicious signs wasn't as blended. I'm glad you liked the conscious irreverence. I will be sure to mix my vocals more in the future, although it's tough because I don't have a mic on me at the moment.

4 albums plus 1 EP in just 4 months... I don't remember anyone so productive, to be honest. Listening to this new release, it seems you've finally reached your sound after lots of beta-testing stuff. Still it sounds experimental (I like the usage of wheels) but without being too messy. Harmonies are neater than before, too. Track n.4 still features some pleasant echoes of your previous "anarchic" attitude, and I hope you'll never lose it 100%.

Thank you! I'm still trying to keep an experimental edge, but I'm pleased with how polished this album is. I appreciate the comment about wheels, they're one of my favorite things to do when making music.

A bit of an update, although minor. I recently released some of my old work under my Celestial Cataclysm moniker. It's not 100% DS, but there's a good deal of ambient fantasy music in there. Stylistically, it's epic doom metal, albeit with a piano as well as a guitar and no drums or bass. I feel like fans, or at least enthusiasts of my music will find it intriguing. celestialcataclysm.bandcamp.com/album/the-johnsonian-demos
