So I got my copy of the Cult Never Dies reissue of this book. Glancing through quickly, it seems the material from the old book is pretty faithfully carried over. All the illustrations are the same, and I got to say they look excellent on the larger pages, very crisp. From what I can tell there is some minor editing of formatting, like paragraph spacing and indentation, and some editing of spelling errors, for example "channelled" is corrected to "channeled," but most of the grammatical weirdness seems to be left as it was. This was a really quick comparison though, so I can't say for sure how much was changed, but my impression is that the original writing of the first edition was preserved as thoroughly as possible, which is of course very important to something like this where "mistakes" are often part of the charm. Although in the new interview it sounds like Mortiis definitely made some changes, saying "not a lot is holy in that sense..." so maybe there's more substantial alterations that I'm not noticing at first glance.
The extra content is all great. The lengthy Mortiis interview is definitely one of the best I've read from him, and the other interviews and unreleased stuff is all cool. Although I got to say the extra stuff might pull one out of the suspension of disbelief that is ideal for appreciating the original writings, so maybe the book would've been better without the extra stuff, but hey, I suppose the original book still has value in that sense. Since I have both I'm glad there's the cool extra content in this one.

Nice, thanx for the mini and fresh mini review andrew, I'm also definitely checking it out atm, considering to buy it soon, probably in digital though..
Either way I hope it has some purchases and is supported.
I also liked (off topic..) the idea that was thrown-on FB page- (by NOT someone appropriate imho) for a DS documentary.. Hope we get to see that too OR a general DS book..
And yes I already know of Masmorra fanzine and supported the 1st issue (digital on BC) .. But he must be inactive since he even took down the zines FBook page.. :/
THanx again for the review!

I got mine on Friday. Super kool book. I was curious as to how much it parallels the original, but it's good to hear that it's pretty faithful. I do kind of wish it had the older book feel to it, but that's the only criticism I have. Very interesting writing. I've only read about 40 pages into the main stuff but it's definitely irregular. I think it adds to the enjoyment of the music, for me at least. I like the focus on the alien components of his world. I think he gets taken at face value as something purely medieval, but his world is much more complex and cosmic than something that simple or historically-themed. Great interview at the back.
This actually made me want to get the older book even more now. I really should've bought one when they were cheaper. I remember seeing a few on discogs going for around $100 back in the early BC days before the genre got bigger. They're over $200 now. I think I would've shelled out $100, but I don't know now that I have this one. I'm sure they'll just get more expensive. I'd just be buying it for comparison, really, though I think reading his work in that format would be more immersive.
I do really wish I had the Fodt Til A Herske 'info booklet' that the special edition came with. I had wanted to read that for a while. I didn't feel like spending that much more on the box set when that's really the only thing I wanted out of it (though the actual box itself looks nice). Anyone here get the box set? What's the booklet like?

Someone had posted pictures of their original copy once, probably him. I'm not sure what's in it, but I think it was similar kind of lore writing pertaining to that album. Only sixteen pages.
