bravemysteries.bandcamp.com/album/sidhe-folkLow Fantasy maverick, author and musician, Justin Mank, is best known for the charming modal micro-ruminations of his central project Ranseur. In 2016, Mank risked all manner of elf-shot mischief to embark on a series of trances and meditations attempting to shift his perception just enough for a glimpse into the lands of the fair folk, the boggarts, the sidhe, the brownies, the bugbears, the pixies, the hobgoblins, and other such hidden creatures. Taking a cue from the fanciful adventures of Robin Crutchfield, Mank used simple musical instruments and recording devices to capture impressions of these experiences as they occurred. The resulting audio documents are alluring circular vignettes not unlike the exploratory harmonium improvisations of G.I. Gurdjieff or Terry Riley's "Persian Surgery Dervishes", if such a work could be scaled down to impish proportions and hidden behind a shimmering veil of hiss. Artwork by William Lee

Awesome release and glad there's another fan of Robin Crutchfield. His third Dark Day album (Darkest Before Dawn -- 1989) is definitely proto-DS especially considering certain contemporary styles like Fief, it's quite astonishing that this was done in 1989. There are as well obvious nods to Moondog in the percussion. Crutchfield's first two albums as Dark Day, especially the second Window (1982) are very unique and inspiring efforts to do folk music in an electronic style -- for me they already transcend their origins in postpunk/minimal wave.

Strange clockwork is also really good. But for this what we were referring to was his folk stuff not dark day which is in my opinion even better.
