You say all art is purely about group identity? Sounds like you're the one brainwashed by radical leftism. I think most would agree that dungeon synth is rooted in romanticism, not postmodernism, so until you are able to recognize an innate beauty or magic in art, or at least temporarily suspend your disbelief, you will never be able to understand, appreciate, or create dungeon synth (or any art for that matter), even if you do eventually manage to mimic the surface details.

Kek is such a dead meme too. In all honesty, I am not against hearing some kind of classically influenced DS that somehow has nationalistic themes, but keep the memes and cheese in vaporwave.

Even within the context of memes, "kek" is cringe-worthy. BM/DS/DA are all too mired in anachronistic and noble ideas to be subject to low-brow memes. Granted, a lot of the Dungeon Synth Memes on that facebook page are pretty funny, but they're usually self-referential jabs at the nature of being a fan of the genre. This white knight of kekistan crap is just...lame.

Maybe artists that really give the feel of being in a dark dungeon, abandoned castle, ruined tower etc? Of course I was not saying the rest is crap. Just different. To stay in topic: joke or serious NS thing? I don't agree with you, your def relies purely on subjective interpretation. I'll agree that there's some significiant musical styles and instruments that can be classified as a perticuliar subgenre (Pirate DS, Egyptian DS, etc...), but some boundaries are so blurred it's hard to consider as "a true" image of DS. We could consider, "real DS styling", as perhaps old-school DS ( Era 1 Mortiis, etc..), but then DS would take a chronological definition, with DS being only dark ambient released in the early 90s and everything which ressembles it. However, I think this would just add more elitism, and classify only the early 90s as being "the true kvlt".
I tend to think that DS is an umbrella-term to signify any music with focus a great deal on atmospheric scenery with all the synthetisers, keyboards,etc.... Again, this definition holds a great deal of flaws too.

yes, this is right. The "dungeon synth" tag is getting wider each day... by now, we can say it's almost a synonymous of "ambient"....
