I am going to make that name stick...because why not. So just as an exercise, I took 10 random releases from this year and put them in here. These releases mean nothing...not one bit...no sir....not anything else going on. I wanted to see if I got stuck with anything but it worked out pretty well. This is just from what I heard and probally in relation to everything else on the list. I wonder if there could be an ultimate pole on each end to calibrate the rest of the releases like a textbook Light/Raw, Dark Refined, Dark Raw, Light Refined). It was interesting to do.

This is the thing with charts like this straight away you seem way off from my perspective. For exp I would put RaevJager right up in the left hand top corner( ie refined/light), plus I don't think Skarpseian is that dark...I suppose each artist would choose were their sound was in their opinion, but what if everyone else disagreed? Plus what if you have more than one artist on the same spot?

Yeah CM seems pretty refined to me...instead of the album art it may be easier to indicate it with a dot or small symbol and maybe have a key. That way, albums of comparable levels of darkness and rawness can go together. But I like this idea a lot and it is very similar to how I view the spectrum of DS

I think the ultimate problem with this chart, even though I like the idea is first having a gauge or calibration. Chaucerian Myth could be refined or raw depending on what is in the corner. It is also different to people. I think the light and dark is easy enough to distinguish across the board but people hearing refined and raw seems to be a little bit more subjective.

This is great! Perhaps write out the artists' names for those who aren't familiar with all of them and are unable to read the logos?

Yep, Once I figure out how to actually present this, name would come. Your music is actually a good example of troubles between different people placing music like yours on the refined or raw end of the spectrum. Unless there were some sort of calibration to compare it to like four classic releases, a lot of these are subjective to each person.

Actually that is a really great idea - running a poll of DS that most people agree fits the four points on the graph, maybe giving one modern and one classic example to give a suggestion of each? Doesn't solve the problem of subjectivity of course, but it does give people a framework.

I really like this as a concept. I've always observed light and dark as a polarity within Dungeon Synth, but the concept of refined and raw for the vertical axis puts words to something I hadn't yet defined.
