I am constantly amazed at how few people mention Mirkwood, a band that plays black metal in the Summoning vein and does so exceptionally well. Sure, they're no Caladan Brood, but it's hard to imagine how anyone into epic keyboards and Tolkien themed metal could not like them. The first time I listened to this song I was already looking up the album and buying it online before the song was even over. You can buy their compilation album on bandcamp and listen to the whole discography here: mirkwoodband.bandcamp.com/album/mirkwood

I feel like Mirkwood often gets overlooked because there's a Summoning dungeon synth side-project with the same name, and that confuses people. The non-Summoning Mirkwood is very good, and I hope they get more recognition soon. I like their more energetic approach to Summoning-styled black metal.

I found out about them when a black metal channel on Youtube posted about them. I fell in love with it, and I think I even got it on Bandcamp.

Love this guys work, totally underrated. I find or similar to summoning of course, but has it's own sound too, it's a lot faster in general, and you can hear a more "punk" influence at times and not just because he's covered Oxymoron. Overall it's just not as epic as summoning I find, even though I love both bands.
Interesting thought about the name, but I don't think it really matters too much. There's been many, many bands with the same names over the years; the cream rises to the crop and gets noticed regardless of what it's called in my opinion.

I'll have a couple copies of the CD for distro when I put out the next Path tapes (also Galdur tapes and CDs). I agree, I think people assume this Mirkwood is the Summoning side-project and skip it since they think they've already heard it.

Sounds very good to my ears. I have 'The Chronicles' 3xCS boxset on order right now, so looking foward to that one.

I like both Mirkwoods - the Summoning side project, and this one. But this Summoning-related I like better. I listen to metal of course, and I play in a band as well. But there is no better genre for me as Dungeon Synth. And this Summoning-related Mirkwood is very much in spirit of DS
