I thought a bit more on this subject and I believe that "Rundgang um die transzendentale SΓ€ule der SingularitΓ€t" by Burzum needs to be mentioned here. I know many people don't like the song because it's extreme monotony but for me it is an essential classic. I remember times when I was listening to it two or three times in a row while watching snow fall trough my window... I don;t know, actually "Rundgang..." always gave me a great post nuclear falloutish vibe, but Tomhet on the other hand, certainly soothing in its own sense of course.. I'd add the obvious answer here, Fief, as soothing as it gets and since it wasn't mentioned.. I can understand what you mean by the post nuclear vibe. I think the whole album has such an intense aura of solitude and desperation. I hardly can listen to it as a whole, even if I think it's an absolute masterpiece. About "Rundgang...": For me the song evokes pictures of walking over a frozen lake at night. Everything is silent and it's snowing. I'm for sure the only living thing in a radius of several miles. The song conjures darkness, solitude and coldness but also a feeling of clearity and being one with my surrounding. (And varg make all this feelings happen with such a minimalistic song. This is truly one of his strongest works.) I don't know why I this is so soothing to me. Probaply my brain is just fucked up. :-P But in general I tend to resonate very well with this kind of darker soundscapes.

What is the most prominent quality of soothing DS? I think it's repetition and those nearly unnoticeable changes throughout a song.

Hmm musicwise/structurewise I couldn't pinpoint it as a non musician, but otherwise as a listener I think it's just the feeling of maybe warmness?.. Certainly relaxing, making your mind drift away in positive feelings or thoughts? Maybe it's just a personal feeling for everyone... Yeah man that release has certainly gone unnoticed, I discovered that on January and really like a lot and give it many listens, already have got the second album on my "to listen" list, if the style hasn't changed I think I'll like it as much, hopefully!!

Definitely, I really like that release. But lately, I've been digging this like no other. Looks like this was just put out not that long ago but I already want the next one & the next one after that! I love Dungeon Synth that seems to tell a story & this does it. It also has some spoken word in it like it was discussed in another thread on here.
So looks like that's catching on more. I have to be honest... I like it way more than I thought I would, you know with the dialogue within a track. If you haven't checked it then you really ought to.
