It's the end of a full of releases year, post in this thread everything related, articles, your selections recommendations, discussion and all.. Similar 2016 thread : dungeonsynth.proboards.com/thread/4/dungeon-synth-albums-year-listSimilar 2017 thread : dungeonsynth.proboards.com/thread/347/year-end-lists-2017?page=1Similar 2018 thread here : dungeonsynth.proboards.com/thread/566/best-2018Swordthatsang's article & list here : theswordthatsang.blogspot.com/2019/12/top-10-favorite-dungeon-synth-releases.htmlDungeoninDeepSpace article & list here : thedungeonindeepspace.com/2019/12/08/top-10-dungeon-synth-releases-of-2019-by-the-dungeon-in-deep-space/So, post any links you notice, post your recs, and discover things you might have missed, you will probably!! My thoughts on the above two lists : As I said in swordsung's thread, I 've yet to listen to some very VERY interesting things from his picks. I certainly agree on Earthencloak and Fief as AOTYs for sure.. I only thought of one album I'd say "FAR far from best or average of the year".. So I think that makes it a great list. On the other hand, from the picks of DungeoninDeepSpace I was unpleasantly surprised I didn't find to my liking most stuff.. I agree with IMMATERIAE of his picks and I've yet to listen to the Nameless King's but everything I've heard of him is great so thumbs up... But everything else from his list I would disagree strongly really (no disrespect to the artists, just a matter of taste ofc!).. Makes a good argument for how different the styles and listeners of DS is that there's so much distance on opinions..

Arthuros - Ithildin for me. It was the album that I discovered back in March that got me into dungeon synth. This album will always have a special place in my heart. I still have yet to find another artist/album that has a similar magical synth sound and really makes me feel like I've been transported back to the olden days like Ithildin does. arthuros.bandcamp.com/album/ithildinHis second album will be coming out next month and it's already sounding magical: www.youtube.com/watch?v=20hsWmIzH-U

many good releases this year (which is not yet ended) but these are my top picks so far:
Diplodocus "Slow & Heavy" Mari Lwyd "Future King" Bavingr "Warrior Bard"
honorable mention for stuff I definitely consider NDSB: Borg, Dust Seeker, PatternShift and -most of all- Ridge Dweller.

Vetraheimr did two albums this year and both of them completely knocked me over.
Also really dug the latest Monastery album that someone posted previously in the thread.
And of course the new Fief album did not disappoint. I've been playing the newest by Nameless King ("Sovereignless Souls") and Upyr ("The Four Seaons") quite a bit too. In fact, all the Upyr stuff this year has been high quality. I tend to prefer the more lush artists in the genre.
I'm less into the more sparse, lo-fi vibe style but Arthuros, Aindulmedir and Hole Dweller nailed it for me.

Fief - V
I can hardly believe that nobody mentioned this. Fief's new albums always feel like a Christmas present to me. It encapsulated everything that is best in the genre, not fully even being the genre (the artist doesn't seem to even associate with DS as such). DS is often described as reminding the listener of an RPG soundtrack, and Fief is exactly that, devoid of any darkness, left with happiness of a lonely strider in a green field. Cannot overstate his greatness. Blood Lord - Unwelcome GuestsBeautifully released on cassette with Silvana Massa Art cover, which unfortunately I missed and can't buy anymore. It's an essence of what made us happy when we were kids and played our NESes, because Blood Lord is played like a soundtrack for a spooky scary game that scared kids shitless, and still brings a tear to an eye when the kid is over 30. Wonderfully executed. Conqueror's Mourn - I will Face the Deathspell When it StrikesBasically cinematic DS, in other circumstances would probably be called just ambient. Reminds you of a depressive November afternoon when there is nothing to do but look outside the window and watch the rain and the raindrops race against each other on glass. Beauty found in sadness. Malfet - The Way to AvalonMalfet is enchanting. As funny as the cover may look at first glance, it connects to the music pretty well, since they are both kind of, childish? It's not the best word, but it reminds you of something long gone in your life from the times when grass was greener and even sweets were somewhat sweeter. Birds chirping, peaceful sounds of streams, wind rustling in the winds, how could one not love it?

Both of Ulk’s releases are certainly up there. Old Sorcery’s “Strange and Eternal” is also excellent. I definitely agree with tons of others already mentioned, but for me the best is easily “V” by Darken Wood. Some of the best atmosphere I’ve heard in any DS, and it’s the album that really inspired me to start creating dungeon synth of my own.

Old Sorcery’s “Strange and Eternal” is also excellent. I've already listened to it like 50 times and believe that with time, it may turn out to be the best material of 2019, but it's so demanding (within the bounds of DS) that if we wanted to compare, then eg. Fief is an anthill, and "Strange and Eternal" is Mont Blanc. The jump in musical development is more than visible.

I love Fief but I do agree that Old Sorcery has an incredible amount of depth. I really love the split with Haxan Dreams too. The way the sequenced bassline drifts into the middle of the song and just peps up the affair gets me every time.
