Hi folks, I'm looking for DS which is murky, foggy, and almost indistinct - like looking down at a mist-shrouded valley, barely able to discern any details in the gloom. Any obvious examples spring to mind? I'm looking for stuff which is *not* militaristic, clear or orchestral. Any suggestions?

Alder Deep is fascinating! Sounds like DS being dragged right back to its BM roots. Moonworshipper is exactly what I was after. Magic Find is what I didn't know I needed. Foggy/Fog/McFoggerson/InTheKingdom of Fog is a really lovely release. Taking Care is now my 'listening while coding' music. Thanks for the suggestions, folks. Some real gold in there.

Thanks so much! I'm really new to the genre as a producer, so I'm trying to feel my way into it without retreading old (beautiful) ground or going so far outside the genre that it's no longer evoking the right imagery. Your kind words have encouraged me to move forward with this project. FWIW, this was improvised live. More than happy to go into details if anyone cares.

In The Kingdom Of Fog is one of my "go-to" albums for sleeping. While not on par with the fog theme/titles, I play that album next to Lindsheaven Virtual Plaza - Rainforest Hill (I + II)

Alder Deep is fascinating! Sounds like DS being dragged right back to its BM roots. When I saw your post I was going to suggest my own music, so nice to see someone else did & you connected with it! For fogginess & murkiness though, I might actually suggest some of my other projects first: WudaWosa - music about forgetting; has a purposefully extra-ethereal atmosphere wudawosa.bandcamp.comTidewalker - music about sloshing waves and tides; murky, dirty, swirly tidewalker.bandcamp.comMEADOWGOAT - this album is based on the haze and intense life of meadows in late summer, so very foggy and mist-shrouded, but in more of a "morning sun" sort of way instead of deep night (but not comfy). meadowgoat.bandcamp.comand, if I had to recommend one Alder Deep album: Wildemoeder - AD is mostly about being in caves and working through other underground spaces, certainly gloomy, but the 'white tapes' are based around the type of lore I've imagined springing up around the Deep, including this barely-remembered retelling of a forest-dwelling 'spirit woman' who carries on and protects knowledge through deep time. As someone wrote on the BC page " i hope you like your fuzz turned up to maximum" alderen.bandcamp.com/album/wildemoeder

And this doesn't nec. fit the initial ask, but based on what you've liked, I strongly suggest you check out the absolute classic s/t Roman Master album, also on Moonworshipper & with some unparalleled sonic texturing: moonworshipper.bandcamp.com/album/roman-master
