Hi everybody, I’m relatively new to DS, and I’m really drawn towards Dungeon Noise. Mainly Ranseur at this point. I️ was wondering if anybody had any insight on how to attain that DN sound on LMMS or Audacity? I’m working with literally just a computer and a1983 Casiotone 610. I’m loving this community and I️ can’t wait to show my stuff!

I don't know if I'd recommend it if you're using a lot of tracks because it's a pain in the ass to mix. But you should be able to do it with limited gear. What I do is I just overdub a noise part that I make separately. More people have been messing with directly putting noisy effects on the synths though lately so you might want to feel that out. When I started I sort of decided how to do the noise first and took it from there. As far as I know everyone doing this has done it a little different, as long as you can balance some inspired dungeon sounding stuff with something more screwed up it should be cool.

Yeah I’ve been importing tracks to audacity, but I’m just not getting the “murkiness” I️ want. I️ like the mono tracks I’ve been recording, but it’s not much to work with. I’m going to work with it more and hopefully I’ll get something I️ like. I️ was talking to my friend about how I️ heard about DS recently and that my initial interpretation of the genre was literally the noise of a dungeon. That let me to Ranseur and Soy Fan Del Dark and I️ loved it. Hoping to capture a little of those sounds, plus some noise elements.

Also, thank you for replying to my post! Your stuff is definitely leading me in the direction I️ want to go with my music.

To get murkiness with LMMS, you might want to dabble with the EQ. Cranking up the low and mid frequencies might work if you don't overdo it. Also, I reckon tape hiss/vinyl noise effect VST's are your friend here (I think LMMS comes with a vinyl surface noise effect). And as for creating original sounds with distortion and noise, the superb free VST Synth1 has some built-in effects that enable you to do that. Not knowing exactly what you're aiming for, with LMMS I reckon I might try a combination of distortion/overdrive, using a lot of some simple reverb effect (I like TAL-Reverb-2, simple and powerful) and messing with the EQ - in that order; create a distorted cavernous base sound (tone down the dry, crank up the wet in the reverb) and then ravage it with messed up but not exaggerated EQ'ing.

If eq doesn't work you could try pitch shift or a low pass filter. Thanks for checking out my stuff too.

Yeah, the Casio I’m using has apparently two sounds: very tinny and very blown out. I’ve been messing around with EQ and such the past couple days and think I’m getting closer, little by little, to the sound I’m wanting.
And Ranseur, your bandcamp has been the soundtrack to my bus rides and reading sessions for a month, so thank you! Once my checking account goes into the positive, I️ plan on buying up some stuff!

You should be able to get the sound. Definitely throw it up here when you finish it, I'm digging hearing all the new dungeon noise albums.

So, I’ve been getting better at incorporating LMMS and Audacity together, and I’ve been getting closer and closer to the sound I’m thinking of (Not sure how close to DS it falls, but I️ think the inspiration shows). I️ look forward to showing you guys once I’ve got a couple tracks I’m comfortable with under my belt.

So..... I posted in this thread awhile ago talking about how I was making some Dungeon noise. Well, my project kind of took a...different... route. Ended up I got kind of into dark ambient stuff and went more in that direction. I’d love it if you guys listened to my stuff and let me know your thoughts! www.monad217.bandcamp.com

Ended up I got kind of into dark ambient stuff and went more in that direction. I’d love it if you guys listened to my stuff and let me know your thoughts! www.monad217.bandcamp.comAsk and you shall receive Here are my two cents mate, take them or leave them of course : First of all, it sounds like 4 separate tracks, why did you put them in one long one? I know dark ambient is into loong tracks but I think the tracks stand out on their own really, no need to combine them imho of course! The first has a noise which noise fans might love but it was too strong for my tastes, even skipped some of it.. The second one at around 9.20 of total album tracktime takes off in its sound, a good one!! The third had its sound a little bit too mixed in the ambience so I couldn't get into it, while I also find very interesting the last one .. All these from one fast listen, from a non noise fan (take that into account), and I was satisfied with what I heard, definitely you have some good stuff in there! Everything best, and always with the best of intentions! Cheers Edit: p.s. Now figured from your nick you're also greek, hey Arghiris and keep it true!
