When I was a late teen I was so desperate to see a ghost that I would take a bunch of LSD and sit in the graveyard for hours at night just waiting to see something, anything. Sadly, I never did see anything. Well that sounds like a good time in any case. Was the graveyard rumored to be haunted? I've heard it said that graveyards don't tend to actually have much activity because ghosts mostly inhabit the places that they did in life, but idk.

^Supposedly a lot of spirits are bored, so my thought is that they'll go where (still living) people go.

It wasn't supposed to be haunted specifically, but did have a reputation for this: www.americanhauntingsink.com/druidridge...Which was long gone by the time I came along. It was a huge graveyard though, I guess I was figuring with all of those dead folks someone might get restless.

I personally believe in the paranormal and in folklore creatures existing. It just can't be a coincidence that different people from different places who do not have any contact with each other all have reports of seeing the same, if not remarkably similar creatures all throughout history (this being the case with multiple different creatures). Plus, it's just fun to believe in anyway. Cool creatures inhabiting the countryside? Why not, honestly? People need to let a little whimsy into their lives.
I've had a handful of notable experiences myself, some being of a typical ghost kind, some of a more folkloric sort. Where I live is supposedly extremely haunted with ancient Celtic folklore and plenty of historical bloodshed, it's even rumoured to be cursed by witches. I wouldn't be surprised if that last part were true, ha ha.

sinew , I'm curious to hear about some of your experiences, if you wouldn't mind sharing? Sure. I'm happy to speak about the folkloric sort. You asked for it, so here's a good few. A quick note, I've loved to hike and explore the wilderness ever since I was little. Where I live, these places are very desolate and very large. Apart from the odd dog walker or fellow hiker in the shallower parts of the forest, I see no one while out exploring. I usually walk at dusk too, when the colours are all gone from the sky and only a residual blue light dimly shrouds the place. I like going at this time just because I like scaring myself by being in the forest while it's dark, but not dark enough to the point where I can't see where I'm stepping. (A false step that deep into the hills warrants a few broken bones followed by a slow death.) That's where all of these stories take place. Here's what I've got under my belt so far: Many times I've been followed in the forest by something which I've never actually seen. I hear footsteps, big sticks snapping under a heavy foot, the shrubbery rustling behind me, all the birds going dead silent. I either don't dare to look back behind me or when I do, I never see anything. Once I've even went back on myself and looked around where I heard the steps coming from, searching for any evidence of human life. I looked well, and yet I found absolutely nothing. It's not like my imagination was getting the better of me - I'm sure that each time, I heard the unmistakable sound of someone walking at a distance behind me. Step after step, snapping sticks that no deer would be heavy enough to. Once I was crouching down at a patch of grass examining some little creatures there, when I heard a big stick snap directly behind me. The type that a big guy would have to stand on to break. I could feel the soul draining out of me, I was terrified. I just stood up, didn't dare look behind me and walked back the way I came (which I very conveniently was facing). If I could have ran, I would have, but I didn't have the convenience of an easy dirt path. I had to very slowly walk and slide my way down the steep, mud and rock filled hill which I had just clambered up. All while I heard more sticks snap behind me, which were thankfully growing more distant. I looked back a few times after hearing the snapping repeat farther away, and of course saw absolutely nothing. Like I was being followed by a ghost. Funny thing is that near that patch of grass, I had previously heard disembodied laughter. A group of people laughing, the sound coming from a place which is impossible to get to unless you hack at it with a machete. It's just a large patch of trees, thorns and bushes packed so tightly that you'd think it were a brick wall. I looked for an entrance a little after I heard the laughter and left only with the knowledge that there really was no way in. Maybe there's something in the middle, I wouldn't know. In that part of the forest, I've also found rotting deer limbs decorating a tree. No marks of a blade, it was as if they had been ripped right from the poor thing and then placed up there. I never found a torso or head nearby either. If it were there, I probably would have smelled it. If it were some weirdo who went out of their way to decorate the forest with deer parts, I have no idea how they even got their hands on one. Deer are very rare where I live, I was lucky to see one even if it were in pieces. If one had conveniently died and this weirdo had found it, where did they put the rest of the body? It would have been too putrid to move. That's what makes it seem like something which may be paranormal to me. Even if not, at the very least it's creepy and demented lol. Maybe the misfortunes of this part of the forest are the result of that alleged witch curse. Apparently near this part, a ruined 1600s witch house was flattened in the late 1800s, which I find pretty odd... A large clearing filled with shrubbery along the main path, I found one day completely dead. All the plants dead pretty much overnight, nothing else able to grow for years. If it was disease, it was miraculously efficient and well contained to just this large clearing and not any of the neighbouring areas. At this clearing, I once accidentally toppled a few stones from a wall that is a good few centuries old and I was convinced that I was going to be suddenly stricken with fatal illness, lol. Did I mention that there's an unusual amount of unnatural deaths where I live? People dying left and right in this peaceful little place. Yeah. All of the previous stories are a compilation of some of my most notable experiences from the South part of the forest. I didn't realise how weird all of this sounds until I wrote it out just there. For all these years I've only discussed this in parts to friends. Seeing this all here, it reads like events leading up to the climax of a horror movie, ha ha. I left out events which wouldn't warrant much storytelling. I don't go to the South part anymore. I prefer the North East now, I have much less stories from that place. Were these all hallucinations? Likely not. I don't think I've gone quite that mad yet. Nonetheless, they all scared or at least creeped the shit out of me.

Wild stories and evocatively written, thank you for telling. The backstory of the witch from centuries past and the viscera hanging from the tree sounds like a real life Blair Witch Project experience, wow. That would be super scary whether supernatural or not. And the laughing from a section of forest too dense to enter, and even the hearing footsteps following and branches cracking, seems like it could be something fey-related as much as ghostly, very cool! I really want to know if there was anything in that patch of trees.

I heard running footsteps behind me twice at one point a few months ago during a walk. Something was running up behind me. I turned around and shone my flashlight behind me. Nothing was there. I started walking and the exact same thing happened again: running footsteps but nothing there when I turned around.
As you should debunk as much as possible for something unexplainable, at first I thought it was just my pantlegs flapping around. But then, I'd have to be running as well to produce that sound, which I wasn't.
Was this a fast-running but fat ghost behind me? It was strange.
This got me to start walking with my keys in my hand again; I'd moved from one of the largest cities in the country to a small town of only a population of 2000. And here I'd just stopped doing that months before, ha ha. You need those keys to ram it into some thing's skull if you have to, like a bear or mountain lion. But everything here just runs from you though. Whatever the deal was, it didn't make any sense: an animal or a person would've had to just vanish as I turned around if that's what it was, but there was nothing in the area to suddenly duck behind.

I had a premonition of my dad's death the night before it happened. Granted he was pretty sick but I had a full on vision of it. I've also seen some unexplained aerial phenomena

I don't know what it was, but it moved fast and seemed to be the wrong shape/size for a flying creature or vehicle - also it was like a swarm of bees, but if the bees were somewhere between huge bird and small car size? Heard a sonic boom when I saw it too, as it moved past me and away from me

^Cryptids can be interesting. I saw a theory on a forum once of the belief that there could be undiscovered microrganisms floating around in the upper atmosphere of the planet. That'd be neat.

I've always been in to the paranormal ever since I witnessed my first apparition. I Suppose you could call it that since I didn't know what it was until I told my friend about it 13 years later who sent an article relating to it, I have a couple more smaller stories to follow.
I've told this story a thousand times before but it's been my go to ever since the topic ever comes up.
So it was about mid-day in the middle of the winter on my 10th birthday and I was asked to take the dog out for a walk, so I did my usual route of walking him around the block. On that route there's an alley way leading to a cul-de-sac. I reached the cul-de-sac and there was a humanoid figure dressed in all black swaying from side to side with a grey blurred out face with no features or anything. I suppose the best way to describe its appearance would be moving static like what you'd expect to see on CCTV cameras. Something was really off about this thing so insinctively,
I shat a brick and booked it
I took one look behind me and it was still there in the same position swaying about in the breeze, with static coming from its body. While running back home with my dog my brain was trying to block out what I'd just seen, it may have been a defence mechanism because I was thoroughly spooked.
13 years later I asked my friend and he'd told me that it might have been what they call a Static Entity, I would link the article but unfortunately it's now locked without a login but there are cases similar to mine around the internet which is reasuring.
This other sighting is short and sweet
I was driving home from work through one of the worst storms of the year, it was around 8pm in late autumn driving down a long stretch of road I notice a hitch hiker in all white waving to the cars, I thought that it was pretty strange, I took another look in my wing mirror and it had completely disappeared.
