did you see the 2CD set compilation??? Sure did here's a list of distros getting it: NORTHERN HERITAGE (FI) BREATH OF PESTILENCE (FI) WEREWOLF RECORDS (FI) MILITANT UNDERGROUND (FI) DARKER THAN BLACK/MOD (DE) NEW ERA PRODUCTIONS (NL) LOWER SILESIAN STRONGHOLD (PL) DARKNESS ATTACK (US) TOUR DE GARDE (CA) HAMMER OF DAMNATION (BR) Dunkelheit Produktionen (DE) Darkness Attack has some in stock already for Americans not wanting to pay Finnish shipping. You don't get the lyric sheet without ordering direct from the label, but you can read it on discogs.

Anyone know why they became Nachtkaiser before ending the project? If anyone was unaware, the put a compilation tape out of Fullmoon and Shadowkingdom under the name Nachtkaiser in 1998. They put Whispers from Carmilla's Tomb on a compilation in 1999 as well under that name. Interestingly, we all know them as Lamentation instead of Nachtkaiser, and their tape reissues were still under Lamentation. I'm guessing this is due to Asmodian Coven's tape rips getting popular. I do like the name Lamentation more than Nachtkaiser. The latter edges towards a more forgettable kind of German BM 'evil-compound-word' phrase band name. Lamentation is more succinct, more fitting. The occasional boot of this shows up on Discogs, and less frequently, actual copies. I think the red insert cassette saw a larger quantity than some of the original Lamentation cassettes. Would love to come across one.

NS-fitting purposes, maybe?

If I were to hazard a guess, it was probably more of an experiment or just an aesthetic choice. In '98, I doubt Lamentation was largely known because of their association to Der StΓΌrmer but I could be wrong, of course. It is odd to re-release everything under a different name.

Oh yes this makes sense: in 1998 I was completely into metal, underground as well....and none of me and my friends ever heard about this duo.
PS. Just received the 2CD collection: very well packed, includes an "external" lyrics-sheet too.

Being that this was just before the end of the duo/project, I'd say the rename has to have some specific purpose. It could very well have been to promote as NS music, or to separate Lamentation from being deemed a national socialist project...hard to tell. I think one of the members is on Discogs selling tapes of Lamentation stuff occasionally. Someone should ask them.
