This is the video in which I dictate the chain of secret reviewers. I will of course not let it be posted forever so if you want to see it then see it now.
I think most of us like to be reviewed and also some of us likes this kind of genre enough for my idea to be reasonable. how about this.. To promote each other we sign up for this as an event where we then get randomly (I have not figured out how) assigned a bandcamp album (so it is available for everyone) and then one reviews that album and tries to focus on what is nice and great about the assigned album. That way everybody that signed up for this gets a lengthy (maybe) review of their album and everybody wins. We make a blog or something similar and publish the result. something like that. what do you think? I would be glad to review something forced upon me since I have thought about making a review dungeon synth blog but I can not find the time to do it. But a album or two I would manage. think about the quality, quantity and diversity of such a blog. It would be embarrassing if this was made by like 5 dungeoneers but would be massive and great if it was made by like 10 or 20 of us. there is already some great blogs reviewing dungeon synth out there but don't we all need even more?

sounds like this would be a nice thing to do as a semi regular thing - like 4-5 times a year, say? then this gives people the chance to sit with an album for awhile, see how it grows on them, etc. But I am definitely in support of the concept.

Sounds like an good idea. I don't think people should be forced to say something nice about the albums necessarily, being forced to review a certain thing might actually be a good opportunity to introduce some more constructive criticism into this DS review domain, which I think has been somewhat lacking so far. But I think we're all friendly enough here that nobody would outright attack an album.
If this gets going I'd like to participate.

I like the idea and would also like to participate if enough other people join. I also feel like we should allow for bad reviews, or critical ones. Otherwise if it's just constant praise, what's the point of reading it? Besides, there can be noble failures or failed experiments which is not necessarily "bad."

I think you had reviews written in real time elsewhere on this forum at some point that I really enjoyed, because you encountered some albums you didn't like but powered through and still found some astute things to say about them. And I'm not 100% sure if this is what you're talking about setfiretostrawmen, but I sometimes find albums or projects that for me only do one thing well, but they do that thing so well that it's worth dealing with what I don't like about the music. And, as you say, albums where the concept maybe didn't come across even though the idea is brilliant.

Yes. A reviewer would be able to found something good to say about anything but we should not be forced to say anything. no. Some good criticism can be applied to even the greatest of albums. I do not think we need guidelines for how to review each other. As it was said " we're all friendly enough here that nobody would outright attack an album".
And this as a semi regular thing would make it possible to make a first attempt even if we only can muster a few dungeon keepers.
I have figured out how to randomly assign to each other.
1. We sign up ourselves as an artist and an album. We need at least 6 to get going. 2. I write everything down on notes and then I draw then blindly from a bag and film it all for you guys to see. 3. We do this and then we publicize it on a public blog (here I need suggestions for what to call it and where to drop it)
Everybody on board? Questions?
I myself want to participate. So DIGRE signs up. And I do this as a rule everything Dungeon Synth related is welcomed. Dungeon Forest Winter Town Deep Space Dungeon-Bit Noise Dark Medieval Medicinal and all sub genres.

This is great. Now we are 4. that should be enough for a first round but let's give it some time before we close the gates. I am thrilled and want to get started. Should we set a deadline for the sign up or just wait until we feel ready? Any pro tips on what site could host this when we make the results public? And what shall we call it? I was thinking about Inner Circle but that is a reggae band from the 90's so it is maybe a little too tongue in cheek. Any good suggestions?

I like your idea for the name, though I'll mull it over myself in the coming days.

Can I be in as myself, The Keeper? How are we going about the album roulette? There's a lot on BC, only ways I see it functioning is various people requesting albums to be added to the pool, or we go through BC and just write down/type out albums, EPs, and demos to go into a randomizer. This might work under something kaptaincarbon and I were discussing called The Vault. It'd be part of a forum here with like featured albums of choosings, various other functions. I think this review roulette may work within The Vault if we don't want to create a separate blog for this (it'd also give us a reason to actually set up The Vault), but I suppose it doesn't really matter. Blog might get more traffic, or maybe not since it'd be another site for people to follow. Inner Circle sounds a bit cliquey. What about "Neath Torchlight", in reference to the Lord Lovidicus song "Deciphering Scorched Parchment Neath Torchlight"? Kind of similar to what we'd be doing, looking into DS albums in a dark den.

What about "Neath Torchlight", in reference to the Lord Lovidicus song "Deciphering Scorched Parchment Neath Torchlight"? Kind of similar to what we'd be doing, looking into DS albums in a dark den. "Neath Torchlight" sounds nice and yes that is what we would be doing. My idea was that when all who want to take part has signed up I would write every album and artist name on pieces of paper, put it all in a bag, and then pull them up and then showing to the camera. I was planing to film it all so that I could not cheat but to make it somewhat exiting for us taking part. So if I would have picked up paper pieces in this order artist-A and then artist-C and then B... then artist A would need to review artist C who would then review B and B would in turn review artist A. This was how I had thought it out. So from that design you can not enter as only yourself. you would need a bandcamp album. but then maybe you do have one? And then I planed for everybody to make their reviews and then hand them in and then we would post it all as posts on a blog. And then if it worked and was giving and worth it enough we could do it again and maybe even more people would participate. The vault is a great idea but I do want to create a separate blog but not to compete with all the other great blogs and online magazines out there reviewing dungeon synth. the difference would be that artist are reviewing artist and I think that would make a good read. Not only would every post be about a different album (that is of course not that unique by itself) but the review style and characteristics of the reviewer would ad some interesting diversity. I myself do not know how to keep a blog so I would be glad if somebody would take that upon themselves. Maybe The Keeper would like to be that person?
