[Note: this is a personal post, so skip it if you want your music to stay mysterious] Fellow Dwellers & Delvers, I can't believe it's been a year since I've released any tapes! The music of Alder Deep is about a cursed cave that reeks of something dwelling deep in its bowels, too awful to behold. Part of the inspiration comes from my real experiences underground and in the wilderness. Just as much comes from internal places. Influence from the claustrophobia and suffocating oppression of the depressed mind. The dungeon within. Melodramatic, yes, but honest. I've been struggling with unbalance since I was very young. Music is the greatest antidote I've ever found, and sharing it with the outside world is the terrifying, but cathartic and rewarding. In the last year, this truth has escaped me. For me, depressive states manifest self-suppression. A complete conviction that everything I imagine or create is absolute garbage. Waste. Bones to be tossed aside. However, I've still been recording new music this whole time. I haven't been able to pull myself together long enough to release it, but now I have a whole catalog of dirty, crusty dungeonous noise. There are probably 20 - 40 live recordings on my hard drive, ranging from a few minutes to several hours. Some of it is certainly crap, but not most. It's going to be a real beast to work my way through, even just doing trimming and EQ. But I'm here. The resurgent mind! Anyway, the point. Somehow, I've returned to the mindset of being able to face my own music. Loosely following chronological recording order, I'm going to be putting out more tapes - both chapters and related tales that have their own self-contained narratives. We'll see how I do. Please, bother me if I disappear again. Chapter 3, the first bit of buried lore, will be released tonight. It's a strange, texture-centric bit that's been a draft on my Bandcamp for months and months. I only need to fold some j-cards and take some tape promo pictures and that's it. The first (and my favorite) side-recording will follow shortly. I swear it. In dungeons, - B

Alder Deep Chapter 3: Deepest Darkness All is lost! Creatures and beasts behind, the terrible unknown ahead...and the torch is gone! Nothing but all-consuming darkness. It invades your eyes and mind like a thick ooze. Your nostrils are filled with the earthy scents of stone and mud and water. The world has been reduced, or perhaps enhanced, to only texture and form. Blood pounding in your ears, the memory of the unclean monsters above, you have no choice but to push further into the deep, guided by the touch of living stone. If you are to fall, you will join the multitudes incorporated into these walls...Limited edition of 25 hand-made tapes. The B-side is recorded with another 45min of dark noise (with real instruments!).

I've listened to Chapter 3 and it's very good, just as the previous two. Enjoying especially the darkest sections. It's hard to understand why you are convinced that your music is garbage. I like how the whole album feels like one long track that is constantly changing, evolving. It goes down to the depths of the cave and rises again.

Just snagged a copy, this sounds FANTASTIC!! Great to hear from you - MAUSOLEI was a huge influence on getting me started down the dungeon path. Seriously loving your most recent release, by the way (might even be my new favorite, over Anonymitat).

After hours....or has it been days? weeks?...in the compressing darkness, you finally manage to strike an ember and tenderly breathe it into the small flame of a makeshift torch. As your eyes slowly adjust, you find yourself eye-to-eyesocket with a desiccated corpse slowly being subsumed by the living rock. One boney hand clutches a dagger, thrust in its own heart, the other holds an ornate tube sealed with some sort of hardened wax. Forcing it open, you find a roll of paper has miraculously survived the ages in the watertight container. Unrolling the delicate parchment, you find some sort of poem or song written in a dead tongue, barely legible from age. You strain your mind, reaching back for bygone days of study and instruction...Your mind is thirsty for the most mundane memories of the distant surface, and thus you begin to read: The Woeful Tale of the Valiant Hero Hambรฟrt Dondรฟrogรฟnous Who Met His Doom in Alder Deep
These ancient tales speak of a has-been hero who finds himself honorbound to a doomed quest after a night of strong drink and stronger oaths. Hoping to restore his name to glory, our hero abandons his life of home comfort for the hard road with a bitter end. Across dark and unsown lands he seeks for the wretched pit of Alder Deep, from which it is said a great many miseries issue forth. But it is the Deep who seeks our hero, who wishes to taste of him. Ere long, poor Hambert is consumed by the deepest darkness, and finds a doom worse than the End. Our hero is remembered in song, but none know of his fate.
