I'd also try this if you like things that sound a bit like Emperor, just got it myself and I'd highly recommend it.

Medenera from Italy medenera.bandcamp.com/releasesVery lush and pretty black metal, can anyone tell me what subgenre it is and can you think of any similar bands? Cheers! ...maybe Summoning? not speaking of Minas Morgul / Dol Goldur but later albums... Hmmm, not really a Summoning vibe for me... I asked on Twitter and was recommended this, which really hit the spot:

ABIGOR's first couple of Albums (up and incl. to "Nachthymnen") get quite some heavy rotation these days. Back in the 90s they were one of my absolute 2nd wave faves but the more "avantgarde" they got, the more they lost me and I somehow forgot about them. So one could call this a re-discovery as I absolutely love their early stuff.

Have been pretty into this tape since it came out. Super familiar stuff, simple drum machine, fuzzed out guitar, stock synth voices, high-pitched grumbling. It's super good, though. The synth parts are quite old-school DS sounding. The j-card says 'dark romantic black metal'. Right up my alley. OT guy does half of it, I'm quite sure:
sternenfeuer, easily the best Abigor album. Solid catalogue, but Orkblut is just the right amount

I've been spinning Alghazanth's debut from 1999 a lot lately. I used to own it when it was first released but sold it in the early noughties and haven't heard it since. Can't say it sounds fresh now, 20 years later, but it does sound quite nice. At least with my nostalgia goggles on.

Niiiice, excellent one, I liked Emyn Muil's second album too which was very very Dungeon Synth most of all, but honestly I enjoyed the first one so much more, it was greeeeeeat stuff and maybe he could try again the more epic black metal approach, but even on DS he released a really good one on its own merit..
