I found these two bands from playing the demo of Undead Knights, which honestly, seemed like such a sick game at the time, that I'm still mystified by it's existence to this day.
This one is probably my favorite, I got the split between these two bands (the one from above, and this one below) with this track in it's natural element, but this is the only version on youtube I can find;
Really just posting here to have dominion over all the boards. Real Painter is everywhere hours.

Just listening to this, the bass is so delightfully weird. Woodwinds are used deftly too. Very cool find.

No doubt this band is well-known on this forum due to their fantastic take on folklore and the classic German BM style. www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYNy25sZ1JEAt any rate, I don't think they get nearly the credit they deserve. Their style of music never grows old, and in fact they're one of the artists who introduced me to the style in the first place. Their early albums are amazing, and I love the more grandiose spin they've put on this new imagining of their most recent album. Any others have some favorites from this band? Also, in agreement with Balin regarding Ultra Silvam, and have been meaning to purchase this album and "Spearwound" for a while now.

This somewhat ties into my last post - no wonder since the Germans have such a flair for this sort of "epic" Black Metal and Dungeon Synth. Have been checking out the artists on this tape label lately... helhallen.bandcamp.com/merchI'm willing to bet some folks on this forum will enjoy this album from The Barrow Downs. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rnqp5C--CIM

Hey Emerge, thanks for the mention of Gates of Dawn - this led down a very welcome rabbit-hole of checking out some related projects and the Death Hymns label. Interesting band with a somewhat-unique approach to the style. It's always great when more "raw" artists mix some unique keyboard parts in. Is there any enthusiasm here for Iku-Turso and related artists? Personally, I think they've released some of the greatest stuff on the face of the Earth in recent years. korpituli.bandcamp.com/music

I used to have an intense 10 years or so living and breathing black metal back in the day. I discovered the genre somewhere during '97, and in the beginning I went all in with the Norway classics of the 2nd wave, eg. Burzum, Darkthrone, Gorgoroth, Borknagar, Satyricon, Isengard, Kampfar, Enslaved, Immortal, Tulus, Dรธdheimsgard + some others such Ildjarn, Sort Vokter, Hades (Almighty), Forlorn, Helheim, Arcturus, Isvind, Limbonic Art, Forgotten Woods, Manes (early), Tsjuder, Demonic, Carpahtian Forest, Morgul, Ringnevond, Windir, Ancient, Kvist, Taake, Ulver, Trelldom... Also a huge plus for me was if there was anything viking/pagan/Scandinavian mythology -related involved.
Later I started to explore BM more broadly, along the way I picked up f.ex. Abigor, Graveland, Root, Vlad Tepes, Blut Aus Nord, Infernum, Seth, Osculum Infame (FRA), Enthroned, Mortuary Drape, Hate Forest, Nokturnal Mortum, Skyforger, Samael, Havohej, Judas Iscariot, Frozen Shadows, Angantyr, Behemoth (early), Rotting Christ, S.V.E.S.T., Old Wainds, Nav', Kataxu... For some reason, Sweden was always more about viking themed bands like Thyrfing, Vintersorg, Mithotyn and Mรฅnegarm; for BM it was mostly just early Bathory, Dissection and Arckanum that caught my interest in those times. (And nowadays, Sweden stands for quality doom and also power metal for me.) A bit same goes with my home country Finland; Beherit was the greatest and Archgoat a strong one too, but not much else in Finnish black metal really did it for me in the end. Lastly, before my life started taking other routes and I kinda dropped from the realms of BM, what really got into me were the so called Blazebirth Hall bands: Forest, Branikald and Raven Dark, to mention the best for me from those circles.
PS. Sorry for the long wall of name-dropping, got a bit lost in reminiscing the past.
Here, let's have something with some synth there too:
EDIT: And this instrumental masterpiece:
EDIT: Some rephrasing and fine-tuning here and there to avoid potential misconceptions.
