Dragon Warrior/Quest is my all time favorite series, Dragon Warrior Monsters might be my favorite game of all time, and Koichi Sugiyama's music is incredible. He's the master of making VG repetition music extremely listenable. This OST CD has synthesized orchestral versions of everything as well as the GBC versions, but I can only find the GBC ones on YT. Still good though.

love Baldur's Gate OST!
Generally I am a huge fan of the classic JRPG sound, at least for games from the SNES and Playstation eras. Secret of Mana has one of my favorite OSTs of all time, and of course Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI-VIII and Lunar Silver Star Story.

Baldur's Gate is definitely another one I've been meaning to get into because Neverwinter Nights is probably my favorite game. Just for the sake of rambling, I think Neverwinter Nights is incredible not because of the main campaign, but because what you were paying for was not so much a game as a toolset. It allowed people to create their own virtual D&D worlds, like it could be a fully scripted games. There are many player-made modules that greatly surpass the main campaign. And back when it was big there were some amazing persistent worlds where everyone would speak in character, where the multiple dms would run adventures on the spot at random times or during planned events. It was incredible. I can never get into mmorpgs because they utterly pale in comparison. But it's pretty much died now. I learned how to use the toolset really well but never managed to finish or release anything.
The music is amazing as well.

I only ever played the first game in the Thief series, but boy was it stressful! Very rewarding, though.

I've only played the old Thief game briefly, but it definitely had a powerful atmosphere. Anybody a fan of the Ocarina of Time soundtrack? I absolutely love it, but for admittedly nostalgic reasons. For my own contribution to the discussion, soundtracks from 90's - early 2000's PC RPGs are one of my biggest influences (though some more recent soundtracks are creeping in there with the revival of the classic styled CRPG, such as Pillars of Eternity or Divinity: Original Sin) in my own music making. My favorite soundtrack will always be Ultima Underworld, because it's the first computer game that really sucked me in and immersed me up to my neck in atmosphere.

The music from that game is incredible though, right? edit: I agree on the Ultima Underworld soundtrack too btw, though I never played the game more than like a half hour or so. I listen to it quite a lot though for having no nostalgia for it. |
