The statue looks of masterwok craft depicting a shirtless warrior with a spear/sword arced back as if in striking pose right in front of him. His beard his long and the ragged pants look like they are almost alive. The few chips and cracks seem to have come from below as if someone short was attacking the statue. As you get closer to the chest and statue, you notice blood splatters on the base of the statue covering the chest. streaks of blood and marble scattred among the floor like some grisly roadmap to past violence.
Ypres prods around with his staff tapping the ceilings and looking for anything hidden (1 or 2 on a roll will reveal hidden things if there) KHf8t41W1-6
Ypres finds nothing of value or interest in the shadows away from the statue.
Calahas draws his bow and motions towards Lampray to follow Nadre, the wild hair farmer is eager to please his master and his amulet jingles softly as he skips behind Nadre. Nadre is examining the statue and the chest and notices the arms to the statue are segmented as is the arms move. Lampray break the silence with an audible thought. "Oh dear heavens me think of all of the treasure in this chest." His eyes are greedy even in near darkness as he stares at the chest with wide eye ferocity. "We should TAKE IT." he hissess in an almost unnatural tone.
As if through divine timing, Nadre also notices the wires connected to the back of the chest which are threaded through the base of the statue. 1-6

Nadre firmly but kindly grips the farmer's shoulder and points out the blood, wires, and arms of the statue.
"friend, if you grab for the treasure before we deal with this statue you will be just another blood stain. Let's be cautious."
He then leads Lamprey back to Calahas to inform him of what he found. He thinks the thief is more capable of dealing with this type of trap. Nadre will replace Calahas as entrance guard if he chooses to approach the statue and chest

Calahas pats Lampray on the shoulder as Nadre brings him near. "Not everything is as it seems, Lampray. Hold for a moment."
Calahas approaches the statue and stands off to the side, away from the probable striking area of the statue (as in, not standing right in front of the chest, but rather off to the side of the statue), and draws a knife from his boot. "Stand clear, everyone! Also, be ready -- this might make some noise. I don't know if the trap will spring or not." Calahas quickly attempts to cut the wires connecting the chest and the base of the statue, so that the trap either becomes disarmed completely or, if it does go off, it will only strike the empty floor in front of the chest.

Calahas beams as his dagger cuts and snaps the thin wires coming out of the chest. There is a large groans and quick as a whip the arms fall towards the ground in a striking motion. The stone sword cracks on the floor not braking but chipping away sending twinkling pieces of stone across the floor. The arms rest downward.
Now the Treasure Lampray yell in excitement as he makes his way towards the treasure with stretch and speed.
Anyone wishing to stop him can intercede with a higher d20 roll.

Ypres Zo will attempt to interpose himself between the greedy Lampray and the treasure, barring his way with the shoddy staff.

Calahas tries an approach other than physical.
"Lampray. If you do not stop immediately, you're in violation of the contract that you made with me. Do not betray me, and do not betray Nadre, who just saved your life. I am a man of business, nothing more and nothing less. Before I started this adventuring business, I practiced my craft in the city. Do you think that in those days I didn't practice violence against those who wronged me? I changed directions, and I don't want to have to go back to my old ways, but do not force my hand. We are your only friends down here -- do not work against us. No one would find you if we left you to this place. Do your job, earn your keep."
Calahas has drawn his bow and knocked an arrow, but not brought it back to full draw yet.

Lampray wakes out of some dream and rubs the amulet around his neck. He looks embarrassed and sheepish. He is halfway to the chest before stepping pack and holding a flickering torch by Calahas who now looks at him disproving. "Im sorry," he says absently. "I must have forgotten myself." He adds while looking down at his feet.
The awkward silence fills the room which is only segmented by the crackle of a torch which makes shadows dance across the walls. A chest still stands before you unopened and at the end of this room crooked to the east is a door that is closed.

Calahas throws his bow over his shoulder again. "Head up, Lampray. It's just a matter of business." He smiles slightly. "I know all too well the allure that riches can have. Indeed, all of us do, else why would we be in this place? We're squared away, no quarrel is between us." Calahas then cautiously approaches the chest, lighting his bullseye lantern and shining it directly at it. "Now, let's see." He chuckles slightly. "Hope we're not a mimic!" He examines the chest closely for any physical irregularities. If it passes inspection, he will lay his hands on it and test to see if the chest is locked or not. If it does not pass inspection and something seems amiss, he will immediately stop.
If it IS locked, he will closely examine the keyhole, once again checking for physical traps. If, and only if, the chest passes this second inspection will he attempt to unlock it.
If it IS NOT locked, he will carefully open the chest.

Calahas looks onto the chest with great suspicious and ever so slightly nudges the lib open and takes a quick breathe. The air from his lungs exhales in a sigh of relief as no fire, death, or spear came to harm him. Calahas opens the lid and marvels at a chest of shining gold, strange bottles and other items of wondrous fortune. Lampray holds himself restrained but gasps when Calahas pulls out various blood stained pouches of gold, a tarnished yet ornate sword, a bottle of some strange liquid with the label worn off, and an old ring with an emerald buried deep inside its ornate body. this looks like the loot of a brave warrior fallen in battle.
TREASURE: Ypres Zo, Calahas, Nadre, and Juris 100GP and 300XP each. 1 Bottle of strange liquid, 1 ornate sword and 1 ring are in your possession. (Average Party XP = 370 XP).

While opening up the chest, you hear a loud crash from the other room to the south (the one where you encounter the goblins.) You can hear a muffle of voice but it sounds like 2d4 goblins entering the room and then shouting at each other and kicking the pieces of the broken table.

Nadre whispers "5 goblins risks death for at least one of us. That battle is too bloody to risk. They block our exit so the best course of action is too continue forward silent and careful."
Nadre wants to lead the group to the western door in this room and see if they can safely explore in that direction and avoid the goblin encounter

Ypres Zo's eyes open wide with delight as he sees the shimmering treasure within the chest. But, just as quickly, he gasps in fear as he realizes monsters are in the other room. He quickly sweeps his share of gold into a greasy satchel and moves towards the western door, his crossbow drawn and loaded. He will take cover behind one of the columns, and attempt to fire on the goblins if we are spotted. He also hisses to Nardre or Jurlis, "Brave masters! Take up the fine blade from the chest, for mayhap it is Elf-Wrought or ensorceled to kill goblins!"

Jurlis is momentarily enamored with his new ornate sword. "A sword that glimmers in the gloom so majestically must be good luck," he says, setting it at the ready, favoring the ornate sword for a quick draw over the axe. However, before fumbling too much with his melee weapon he aims his (already drawn) crossbow toward the loudest goblin and fires.

After firing Jurlis realizes his companions were trying to be sneaky and he had totally ignored them in his momentary gold fixation. He tries to slowly slink back to the shadows in embarrassment, and the slim hope that it will not draw the goblins toward us.

Calahas runs his hand down his face in exasperation. "For the love of all that is holy, Jurlis." Taking cover behind a pillar in a similar fashion to Ypres, Calahas will draw his bow and fire at the pack of goblins himself.
