This Dungeon Noise surely makes for an interesting listen. I got inspired to try some rawer stuff myself, but I came to the conclusion I have absolutely no clue how to make the noise-part of the genre. Any tips?

Apparently Tyrannus uses a no-input mixer - which causes for all kind of feedback uncontrollably. At one point during my brief flirtation with noise I was using various noisemakers (percussive) with contact mics attached, and running them through pedals to create soundscapes. Nothing I ever made was along the lines of HNW, but it was definitely very noisy ambient.

I use a no-input mixer setup with a simple behringer mixer, delay, and four distortion pedals. That's how I do it but it might not really make sense to invest in noise hardware unless you plan on doing a lot of noise work...digitally it's certainly possible but that's not really my realm of expertise. I know audacity has basic white, brown, and pink noise settings which I actually used to play around with a bit. Part of the fun of noise is experimenting and discovering so if it interests you I suggest fiddling around a bit more. What sort of equipment is at your disposal?

I have FL studio with some VST's and I use audacity for some mixing things as well as just experimenting as you said haha. I actually just made a track that's more like raw and crackling vintage DS, not really noise but I do kinda like this style I just discovered. If you'd be willing, I could send it to you (or throw it online) and you could share your opinion...

Agreed! I think it's moments like this where it clicks with people and they become inspired to give it a go that really help styles and scenes take off. I'm interested to hear all sorts of other people trying it and what their interpretations will be like

Well, I wouldn't call it Dungeon Noise, like the way Tyrannus does it, more like vintage DS with a more crackling and noisy vibe. But hopefully I'll finish a few more tracks in the coming hours and I'll quickly make a Bandcamp page and throw everything online. I'll post a link in my Cryptic Dungeon thread when it's done. Check out my Cryptic Dungeon tracks too if you'd like, feedback is always welcome. EDIT: I have the first Vagor demo online now. It's pretty different from my other work, so I can express some unused vibes I have. EDIT 2: And I did call it Dungeon Noise

I think it sounds quite good! Very strong atmosphere with minimalistic ingredients. That's the type of DS I love best

Yeah, sometimes less is better, especially when it comes to this kind of music. I'm really digging your stuff too. After all, that is what inspired me for the new noisy type of thing...

I have quite the new album for you all to check out: pagodamast.bandcamp.com/album/the-sorcerer-and-the-serpentA physical release is already being discussed but that will not be for some time, but it will be well worth the wait and is scheduled to be a sort of deluxe version of this release with bonus tracks and new cover art. I love what I have drawn for the current art, as rudimentary as it may be, but the future release might look a bit different, perhaps darker and scarier. I'm no visual art pro, though I aspire to improve! I'm excited to see what the updated cover will be like, but that remains a mystery to us all for the time being. For now, I hope you enjoy this current digital version! Stay tuned for updates!

I can craft the general tone but it can spiral out of control and and produce some harsh shrieking which I reign in but keeping the sounds in a typically lower EQ register. I'd describe it as like playing music on a living creature, in that you can do your best to get it to behave a certain way but it has a mind of its own that sometimes takes over

Oh one other quick comment: I posted a bit of the sort of narrative that surrounds my work, and some of it appears within the description of my new album. Now for a question: Would anyone be interested in me putting together a storybook which depicts the life and times of Einhorn, i.e. the hooded figure on the cover of my latest release? He is the same dark herbalist that appears in the first DS compilation, if that adds further intrigue. I might include cover art and previously unseen artwork to accompany the words. Let me know if anyone is interested!
