Hello, everyone! I make Dungeon Synth music under the name Chaucerian Myth. I have released one full-length album (a concept album based on Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales) as well as two more recent singles. My music draws from a variety of influences found within the Dungeon Synth genre: neoclassical, Dark Ambient, Plainchant, minimal synth, neo-medieval, Drone, as well as many others. In my works, which give homage to some of the greatest literary minds in history, I like to utilize a variety of styles and textures, from epic orchestral pieces, to classic video game-esque Dungeon Synth sounds. Much like the authors whose works inspire me, I try to transport people to new worlds with my music. To me, the act of composition is the most satisfying feeling I've ever known, and I'm glad to be able to present this feeling to others. In a way, it is like taking the message of great minds like Chaucer and transcribing those thoughts into a new, musical language. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed making it! Listen to the music here: chaucerianmyth.bandcamp.com/Check out the FB page for updates: www.facebook.com/chaucerianmyth/(Please forgive this shameless self promotion!) P.S. How does one go about getting one of those verified accounts around here? Many thanks to you all!

Welcome. I've only given it one listen so far, but that was all it took for me to think Canterbury Tales is pretty great and unique.

Thank you! I'm always surprised to find people still listening to it and enjoying it. I never had any expectation for it to grow beyond my bedroom, so to speak.

I'm completely flattered and humbled by your kind words. I man you're at a level that truly amazes me, though. I mean your compositions are relatively elaborate and you have a multitude of layers and textures that are simply delightful. I feel I make very simple, murky music that capitalizes more on atmosphere than the strength of my composition, for sure. While I'll probably never have particularly strong composition ability, projects like yours motivate me to reach for new levels of complexity and depth than what I've accomplished previously. In other words, your work is inspirational. Keep up the good work! I'm eager to hear another full length some day!

Also, in regards to your music, I really love it! I'm certainly not discouraging you from reaching for new levels of complexity and pushing yourself (it's good for everyone!), but I think you've hit the nail on the head in terms of atmosphere. I was listening to your most recent album today, and I just got lost in it. Simplicity is, by no means, a bad thing. There's a ton of places on Ruins where you do as much with 2 chords and some white noise as I do with 23 instruments and 5 time signature changes. That, to me, is extremely important. The awesome simplicity on this album makes your message and expression even more clear, and it gives it such a great, old-school atmosphere, while still being interesting - I love the use of noise and harsh noise elements, for one! These are the kinds of releases I go to when I feel myself getting to far away from the spirit of Dungeon Synth. To me, you've captured the essence of the genre quite perfectly here. If you do decide to pursue more ambitious and complex compositions and arrangements (and I hope you do!) I'll be first in line to hear them, as you've absolutely nailed atmosphere, and in that sense, your composition within the genre is already spot on. I can't wait to see you and your work reach new benchmarks!

Thank you for the kind words! Yeah I don't think I'll totally change directions by any means, but certainly an advancement and/or refinement of what I have now. I think this genre and community are so great and I think everyone is just so motivated to improve and produce great material. I think everyone is encouraged and inspired to pursue their particular niche of the DS world and I find it pretty awesome.

I agree completely. The community is amazing and it's great to see everyone want to improve so much. DS is a surprisingly diverse genre, and I think that must be partially due to the fact that the listeners and composers of the music are so open to new things!

Welcome here! I am very fond of the mix of the neo-classical and dungeon synth vibes. Makes the whole album very interesting to listen to.
