Recorded a bunch of vocals today and did my final mixdown and I am done! Thanks again for doing this! I find the inspiration and challenge a lot of fun. I used the "Siren" preset in Arturia Pigments with some modifications, a Piano VST, and my voice. If you look in the track info for each track, I say which effects I use to post-process them. Here are some codes for it: 7g78-vgyt v2w3-g3n7 9mj5-uxvv nbgf-vqg8 5vux-gtrn g95j-unhj 33r8-ejqy avm2-3gyr 8985-hunl 22nb-v5vj

An update for my part: unfortunately I'm unable to make it with the rush challenge after all. With my somewhat limited time and energy at this phase of my life, I don't really function well outside of my own terms and pace when it comes to a free-time project. Thus apologies for shouting out too early and beyond my current capabilities. However, my initial excitement about the challenge was a catalyst to start working on an upcoming release regardless. During the holidays I discovered some more of my old and unused material from the years '99-'02 and which I've now been wrapping up for a compilation-kind of album. Hopefully I'll get it finished and out within some weeks from now, if all goes well.

During the holidays I discovered some more of my old and unused material from the years '99-'02 and which I've now been wrapping up for a compilation-kind of album. Hopefully I'll get it finished and out within some weeks from now, if all goes well. Hey there no apologies necessary and glad that you were able to find some inspiration in this process.
I'll just say a couple things here about this challenge in general, because this one has garnered more attention and involvement than the previous three, we've gotten some insight into how people feel about it.
1. I created this challenge because I wanted to use the combination of prompts and randomization in my personal creative practice. I wanted to share the process with others because I find it quite fun and stimulating.
2. I kept the concept "casual" (no prizes, winners, minimal promotion etc.) because I'm not a big social media promoter, but mainly because I just think it should be fun.
3. I hope that even if people aren't interested in this particular challenge, they may adapt some element of the process for their own fun, and of course there's absolutely nothing stopping anybody from doing that.
4. The rules work better for some than others. I like to compose quickly so perhaps I was biased towards a time-limit based challenge. If the rules don't work for somebody else, I hope they break the rules and make something that they love.
5. I guess the most important thing I want to say is I wanted to share this challenge in hopes that it would inspire the joy of creativity in others the way it does for myself. I've seen a lot of reactions of people who were excited to try this rush. Some have been able to complete the challenge, others haven't had time but have still been inspired for future or ongoing projects. I have seen a couple of people who had a negative reaction to the "pressure" of the time-limit style and I would just never want anybody to feel bad as a result of this challenge. I hope nobody ever feels bad, like they "failed", or that their efforts weren't good enough. Conversely, this challenge should never be seen as a competition. We are all on a journey of learning and experimentation. Have fun in your own way and at your own pace.

Some have been able to complete the challenge, others haven't had time but have still been inspired for future or ongoing projects. Yeah, I will say that the limitations imposed have actually really helped me focus in a way that I tend to not be able to do working on my usual solo stuff. I definitely want to try taking advantage of some of these techniques to work on things in the future.
That said, your challenges are timed often enough that it's good to motivate me to do something when I haven't had a chance lately, and I tend to work in short bursts as I write anyway.

Here is my "submission" for the Winter Rush. Personally, I like very strict time limits when doing these kinds of challenges. If I have too much time, I rarely finish them since I always have more "urgent" projects going on. This was made under 24 hours in total, I'd guess around 3 hours of active work, if you don't count listening to it few times. 8 tracks of kantele improvisation, with bunch of winter ambiences I have recorded in the past or got from somewhere else, mixed together. I experimented with few other instruments to add over the kantele playing, but nothing felt fitting so I decided to keep it at one instrument only. Or 2, if you count all the ambiences and tiny bit of my voice as poor second instrument. Original art is by Hasui Kawase, bastardized by me for the cover. Huge thanks to bartizanier for organizing these things! While this is my first time actually submitting, it's been great inspiration to follow these rushes. myrrys.bandcamp.com/album/talven-reunallaEven though it's PWYW, here's some codes: y8gc-uhev 2zu4-ev28 ay5q-3ywn uhvv-kflb vqf8-6qvw 7gd2-yzgs lu45-76fl 4mpb-v6jj 4r9l-gy9y ex24-uukf gcmj-5qzm

The vibe is good and it doesn't feel like it's "missing" anything.

Awesome, excited to listen to yours Myrrys! I ended up creating an ambient/neo-folk album using acoustic guitar played through some effects pedals. My second instrument is a sampler. I used fragments of microcassette tape hiss to create blizzard wind effects in the background. It was another fun, challenging, and enlightening process again. More than anything, I am really happy to hear messages from others who have enjoyed this challenge. bartizanier consistently impressed by your creativity. I love how you handled percussion, and the sparse instrumentation really emphasizes that winter stillness. myrrys your kantele is enchanting, really lovely atmosphere. Felt like a longform meditation on a them me rather than individual songs. I love this challenge and hope to participate one day haha

Yeah, I gave it a listen while I was working and I really dug it. Gonna go back and give it a better listen when I have some attention to give it 100%.

Thanks for the lovely comments! Going to listen to the other submissions today while working. mahrgdidj you are on point, I have never really practiced how to play kantele, it's just something I sit down with in a meditative mind set. And that's how I recorded it, stopping when I felt that this particular "viewpoint" on the mood had ran it's course, and then cutting those viewpoints into individual pieces of the album. This was also the first time I recorded my playing, and it was good way to get out of the comfort zone. Esp with the short time limit, I had to just be content what the results were and not to obsess over every little mistake. RangerRick Yeah only reason why I tried to add something else was to be more strict with the prompt. But end results always win over the starting goals. Like you said, limitations really help with the focus, and even if you throw the limits away at some point, they can be great to get going.

bartizanier No worries, no bad feelings at all here. I completely understand the purpose and ideas of the challenge; it's all very intriguing, even though it didn't turn out to be just my cup of tea, hehe. And at least I got something started for my next release, so it was certainly good to give it a try. Also, I had my head strictly tuned on synth-only stuff and it didn't even cross my mind to use or create something else, thus now I feel pretty stupid. The thing is, I'm also a kantele player with around 21 years of experience, and it's actually my main instrument. I could have easily improvised 8 kantele songs with vox and a synth backround within just a day or two (kantele is great for impro stuff). Perhaps I'll work on this one some later time then. Back in the day between years 2003-2014 or so I used to have this "kantele metal" project called Nostatus that was furthermore one of the reasons why my Talvi project went on hiatus; kantele simply invaded my head so completely and thoroughly, that I didn't touch keyboards/synths for a long time. I used to play 10-12 stringed instruments, but then, back in 2010 my good long-time friend A.Tolonen (of Nest and Syven) offered to build me a 15-string custom kantele that I still have and play from time to time. Sorry for the offtopic, but if anyone's interested in checking out some of my old raw-sounding home-made DIY stuff with low-end recording equipment and below moderate mixing, here's Nostatus EP '04 and Sanan synty '06. And here's an improvisation with my old 11-string kantele from 2010 (when I had more hair and less tattoos, nowadays it's vice-versa ) and a newer one from '21 with my 15-stringer after some beers and also a small break in playing the instrument. myrrys Ever in need of tips & tricks with the kantele, feel free to ask, I'll gladly help. Back on topic: Thanks RangerRick , bartizanier and myrrys for sharing your works, great stuff!
