This is so good, I love it.
The Dungeon Rush time limit has ended! Thanks to everybody who participated, and we hope you had fun. Already there are some who survived and escaped with a tale to tell.
Here is another finished project that was shared on reddit:
I will be working on mixing now but I want to post as soon as possible, I'm inspired by you folks who have already shared your work.
One final note about future challenges: Winter rush will probably go ahead. I have debated taking a break because I think people will be busier than ever during the holiday season. So the time limit will probably be increased to three weeks. And the theme will be winter-related. We have also witnessed portents of an interesting challenge for the Spring equinox so keep your ears to the ground.

This is so good, I love it. Thanks, I appreciate that! I’ve listened to a decent amount of DS stuff since the whole Middle Ages thing blew up, but I wasn’t sure if I really have internalized the right vibe for “Dungeon Synth” or not. I hope I’m on the right track. Either way, “imagine this is playing while you’re exploring this dungeon” is a pretty great way to come up with inspiration. I dug it a lot. Dang, liking this a lot. Getting The Orb or Future Sound of London vibes. Nice!

Dang, liking this a lot. Getting The Orb or Future Sound of London vibes. Nice! Hey, thanks dude! The ideas were coming out in a kind of video game, chiptune, poppy way (or conversely dark ambient which I didnt end up using) so I just had to go with the flow. Thats one of the things I love about using this structure - it forces you to kind of ride whatever vibe emerges. Thanks again for listening and participating.

Winter solstice update:
I have hemmed and hawed a little about the prospect of a Winter Solstice Dungeon Rush, because it is a busy time of year and I presume it would be difficult for anybody to participate. That being said, I am going to go ahead with it, in full expectation that I may be the sole participant. (And depending on demands on my time during the holidays, there is the possibility of not being able to finish). There will be a special rule extending the Rush from 2 to 3 weeks. More to come, good health and best wishes to all.

These are such great prompts! Last time I missed the deadline, I had 3 rough sketches on the M8 tracker. I should polish those up while waiting for the Winter Solstice Rush to start. Thanks for stoking the creative fires!

Cheers and hails! The December full moon hath arisen and the dice been cast. The limits of the Winter Solstice Rush are as follows:
THEME Winter Synth
FORM Instruments (1d4): 2 Songs (2d4 + 1): 8 Length Range (3d30): Between 11 to 41 minutes total
SPECIAL RULES Relaxation: 3 week time limit Reflection: Incorporate themes of memory Recital: Incorporate your voice (record and process as you please, does not count as one of the two instruments)
The Rush begins Dec 21 and ends Jan 11th. We hope to see you there and send our warmest (yet still icily cold) holiday regards.
Edit: Ambient sound effects/field recordings dont count towards your 2 instruments, so feel free to add frozen howling winds, etc.

Cool! I'm off for the holidays so I'm gonna try to do this, but also I'm trying to wrap up another project so we'll see what I can get to. 2 instruments is gonna be... interesting.

Bear in mind this means two instruments or plugins but as many patches as you want. Some other questions I've been asked: any effects are allowed. You dont have to post your album at the deadline, you can mix for as long as you like etc.

This is a great idea indeed! Would definitely like to give it a try as well, as winter is kinda my thing too. I'll be somewhat occupied over the holidays though, but will start working on this one as soon as I can. Let's see what happens and if I can make it in time. =)

Welp! Wasn’t sure I’d manage it the way the holidays were shaping up, but I’ve got 8 tracks sketched out. I need to record some vocal bits for a couple of them and do a final mix down, but I’m really happy with where I ended up.
I was worried about the 2 instruments thing, but I went with a weird ethereal patch from a CS-80 VST, and a piano, and it’s amazing how much variety in sound and vibe I can get out of them. I’m gonna do some ooh-ing and aah-ing to round things out. I played with some atmospheric sounds but really didn’t end up happy with what I did and dropped it. Gonna be mostly sparse, but that works for this project.

Tonight I find myself making a spreadsheet of the sketches I have so far. I still dont even know which instruments I'll use! 2 more weeks to go, which is nice. Have fun everybody.
