Hey guys and girls, this whole RPG thing is fun and hell and comes at a great time during my vacation. I do not want to take away from the One Ring RPG, which I am also playing in, but I thought it would be fun to run through an old school adventure that uses the same system as the Test but is less hands in the air goofy with buffalo. Okay maybe buffalo.
System: Swords & Wizardry Core (retroclone of OD&D brown/white box and the rules found in the first supplement 1974-1975). Same as the one used in the test.
Rulebook
Random Character Generator
You all can create characters if you want or just run it through the Random Character Generator . If you want to make your character, just use your dice rolls for your attributes here. You can do 3d6 down the line for attributes {roll range="3d6"} just replace those funky brackets with real brackets. You also do 3d6 for gold and then buy things and that is about it. OD&D or OSR is deadly and there is more strategy than roleplaying. With your character having 3 hitpoints, there is not a lot of time to come up with backstory. That isn't to say you cant roleplay but this module will be en exploration grind rather than a chance to convince a king to go to war. The One Ring that is also being run has more roleplay if you are interested but if you want to see what trve dungeon-crawling is all about, join the ranks of the dammed.
Timing and posting. I will be back from Holiday excursions next Wednesday the 28th and I will post (depending on number of interested) in the mornings [6-9 AM EST] to resolve any actions from the previous day. IF you are playing all you have to do is post once per day or be cool with everyone else decisions to take a left and not right. If for some reason you die or someone else wants to join the party late, the places you will be going can always have people dropping in and dropping dead.

I'm not super big on dungeon-crawling over roleplaying, but one post a day sounds like a pretty manageable dosage.

I'm not super big on dungeon-crawling over roleplaying, but one post a day sounds like a pretty manageable dosage. I think for something like a dungeon crawl it'll be interesting to see progress made by day. and exploration. The adventure is going to be set up that you have a "homebase" with dungeons on the frontier of civilization which was how most early games went. I do not think the concept of town adventures came about until things like Baulders Gate.

hell yes, sign me up!
a sour-looking and grizzled man, a squashed and purplish nose hanging over a slack, gap-toothed mouth that reeks of onion. He wears ill-fitting, cobbled armor that droops over his gaunt frame.

I've been wanting to play an RPG GMed by Kaptain since I heard about them on /r/metal. Count me in. I'll probably post my character later today. Late edit: Never mind, my time disappeared with a huge influx of stuff. Count me out.

I want to participate in this as well, chances are the other game won't last much for me after that trap.

Ypres Zo thinks Dockzer should be our leader. Ypres Zo is a stupid man and a natural follower. He is in awe of Dockzer's martial ability and obvious physical gifts. Ypres hopes he can attract his attention by affecting a servile attitude & perhaps become his squire or spear-bearer.

Tuekradrebb is a tall, thin, menacing elf. He sticks to the shadows when he walks, and he keeps his face hidden by wearing a hood constantly.

Yep! also for people who have played old final fantasy games 1/2/3 this is going to be very similar. There will be a marching order through the dungeon and when you hit an encounter (wandering monster) we will deal with spacing in simple terms as up front and in back. Probably the most different that this will be (aside from the silly ass game in Happenstance) is the degree of danger. Pathfinder and new D&D proposes superheroes. You guys are normal people and the way dungeons are set up is there could be a monster way to hard for you to fight in the first room. Talking, sneaking, and just avoiding conflict is encouraged while getting treasure is key. If it sounds like there are 10 goblins in that room at the end of the hall, you might be best to not kick down the door and cast all your spells. For anyone who is hurt or magic depleted, the dungeon delving will not be done in a day as you will most likely explore, get your ass kicked go back to the town rest stock up and then hit the dungeon again.
there usually is a caller who tells the DM what they are doing but being a Play By Post, for the first time, I will go with active majority. If 6 people are active and four of them need to go back to town but two of them want to stay and fight the hellhydra, you guys are going back to town. If one person is active and the rest are AWOL, then they get to make decisions. Ill post more of this stuff when I introduce the game but I think the most important thing to remember is even though there are archaic rules, OSR still abides by the rule that if we are having fun then we are playing right. These old games were played by 10 year old kids who didn't bother with half of the rules and made up there own. Most of OSR is a big pile of clones, original rules, and hacked rules.
Ill be away at family festivities until Wednesday when Ill post the intro for the game. On Thursday we can get started and then itll go from there. Be sure to queue up you DS to start dungeon delving!
