I liked both parts, but I couldn't help but get non-dungeon imagery from the first portion. Still good, though! My feelings as well and I think that'll be the struggle of the genre. My personal approach is to start with DS grate it some rather than start with noise and get a medieval/fantasy feel out of it. I'm eagerly anticipating harsher/noisier/dungeonier sounds in the future though. As far as the compilation, I think there were some notes about using it as an opportunity to experiment and that was part of the appeal for me. I'd love a full album that was a spider web centered on pure DS with deviations spreading everywhere. Perhaps if there was more intense variations on this comp then the noise track wouldn't have cut as deeply. Yeah that's a good point. I think if we had maybe some other really strange stuff it might've stood out less. I guess I'm a bit dismayed at the thought of it ruining the compilation for anyone but on the other hand it seems to work for a lot of people and I certainly enjoy it so I don't feel like I'm totally off base

Also I think it might be important to note that for some people noise can create a pretty "kvlt" kind of atmosphere. Listening to albums like the one below have further blurred the lines between noise and black metal in my mind, at least

So I think one of the more interesting apsects of DS is its versatily and not really being one thing. There is certainly the dungeon tropes of plodding synth and battle noises but things like Fief, Chaucerian Myth, Barak Tor, and Faery Ring, Verminaard all sound pretty separate in terms of theme and style. I certainly think there are outliers like synthwave, noise, chip music, classical and so forth but I feel a genres strengths are in its exceptions as well as its examples. Also searching through some old norwegian death and black metal demos I found this which is prety damn noisy. www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4xNhaW0Rbsplus this which is death metal but still www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8HEbx20FI0

So for the next two volumes I sort of grouped them into two broad categories of "above ground" and "underground" where all of the weirdo drone and experimental stuff is sort of grouped together with the darker material. There certainly is a market for darker harsher sounds to compliment people's desire for tavern music.

I mean I'll always be the first to admit it wasn't my idea, by any means. The decision to make such noisy DS seemed to come organically to me and was heavily inspired by artists doing similar things. Dungeon noise seems very odd to some people but it makes perfect sense to me!

You should just act like it was an accident and keep saying sorry with each release.

* casts Friendship
Ok I disagree but lets get on to adventuring forward, I hope more tomes from the meeting come out soon.
* casts Confusion IV (from the apocryphal spells of Phantasie)
(to Tyrannus)
"Thou could at least had named it 'Rexius the Noisy Bard", which would be very appropriate, alas!"
* casts Sleep

Or potentially, having a comp set up like that could allow people to experiment some.

I kind of want to orchestrate some sort of dungeon noise compilation/publication/label/cult, maybe have some more traditional DS artists give it a dabble. I'm quite tempted to write up some sort of explanatory handbook

Listening back it really feels like there's barely any noise in it...well to each their own

I think it just ended up this way for Volume 2 and 3 and Ill see if people dig it or not and adjust for future times. The forum Comp though will be all otgether so any discussions can be sussed out.
